Community Tasting Notes (average 88.8 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 136 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by John Danza on 12/27/2014 & rated 90 points: From magnum. Opened up after sitting in the decanter for a couple of hours. Dark red color. Palate of black fruit with leather on the nose. Great with steaks. (879 views)
Tasted by hanasowner on 6/7/2014 & rated 92 points: Decanted upon arrival...medium red...lively nose of dark red cherries, some earth...a finish of pure silk with no tannins whatsoever...can't believe this is 12 years old. (1662 views)
Tasted by John Danza on 5/10/2014 & rated 88 points: Double decanted a couple of hours before serving. Great color without much change. Very little sediment. Good nose of leather, but some VA as well. Probably drunk too warm, as it was a sunny day. The fruit is there but the temperature muted it. Definitely plenty of stuffing left in the wine, but it needs better conditions. (1688 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 4/28/2013 & rated 84 points: Medium ruby color; nose is overripe red fruits, unbalanced; palate has medium tannins, shows alcohol, poor overall. (3122 views)
Tasted by sunalsorises on 2/13/2013 & rated 90 points: Touch of hot at the finish. Good with food. Just ok without. (3197 views)
Tasted by tbone on 11/27/2012: From 375. Right in my wheelhouse, very Bordeaux like. Has shed all of its baby fat in this format. Very subdued dark fruit, moss, olive, pencil lead and smooth as silk. Mondavi cabs with at least 10 years are the bomb for this taster. Haunting nose and the palate is well integrated although you can tell it is holding back just a bit. (2882 views)
Tasted by Grappa Cellar on 9/13/2012 & rated 85 points: Ok cab
Limited fruit
Still Pleasanton (2603 views)
Tasted by mouton45 on 7/12/2012 & rated 88 points: Same as my last note - nice but nothing special (2746 views)
Tasted by The Drunken Cyclist on 6/26/2012 & rated 90 points: From a 375. Very nice. Still very nice fruit, body, and balance. One of the better deals from the PLCB over the years, sad that I had not bought more of these. (1698 views)
Tasted by MoreWinePlease on 5/17/2012 & rated 90 points: Holding nicely and giving pleasure. This has a nice nose of black fruit components w/a hint of toffee/tar segueing into mid palate of the same. In contrast to an '06 Cougar Crest Cabernet Estate. Equally satisfiying but different w/the Washington wine offering up a crunchier red raspberry profile. They're both good and satisfying. (1722 views)
Tasted by drunken sommelier on 5/5/2012 & rated 88 points: Deep ruby red, no bricking yet. Cassis, blackberries, mint, chocolate, earthiness, alcohol and baking spices on the nose. Full bodies, with black fruit, spice and lots of alcohol on the palate. Well integrated tannins with a long spice and alcoholic finish. (1645 views)
Tasted by kuhawk88 on 4/29/2012 & rated 89 points: Dark garnet color in the glass without much brick-red color on the edge as you would expect from a 10 year old wine. Pencil shavings and cedar dominated the nose while dark fruit was prominent on the palate. The wine initially seemed to be a bit "awkward" when opened - but then became more harmonious after some time in the decanter. Robert Parker gave this a drinking window to 2016 - and I would tend to agree that this wine will continue to age well over the next few years. (1570 views)
Tasted by mouton45 on 12/25/2011 & rated 88 points: With Christmas Day dinner. Nice wine but nothing special (2084 views)
Tasted by ggolec on 11/25/2011 & rated 89 points: From magnum, in a nice spot right now. No formal notes but recall smooth red fruits with nice cedar and clove notes. Very enjoyable, if simple wine. (2361 views)
Tasted by MoreWinePlease on 10/31/2011 & rated 90 points: This was one of 3 left from a case bought years ago. Wow, this has aged beautifully with little in the way of bricking and it tasted great with the NY strip. Everything is in balance with enough rich fruit (mostly cassis) to please the thirsty palate. I don't know how the hell they do it with almost every vintage. (1667 views)
Tasted by dougie on 2/20/2011 & rated 90 points: Decanted for an hour. Still a bit awkward for the first hour. then, smoothed out and was beautiful. (3411 views)
Tasted by ecola on 2/5/2011 & rated 89 points: A nice cab with solid cherry, oak, vanilla, and a little spice on the finish. Moderate tannins. ($5) (3371 views)
Tasted by Ombibulous on 9/23/2010 & rated 86 points: A very good accompaniment while smoking a good pipe. Again, rich in flavour. Browned from age. Very good (85.5). (3913 views)
Tasted by bwillia on 5/24/2010 & rated 92 points: This was stunning. went from strength to strength as the evening went on. Silky smooth in the mouth and very expressive on the nose. Just a beautiful wine. (4255 views)
Tasted by dougie on 5/14/2010 & rated 90 points: Beautiful stuff! ready to go. (4245 views)
Tasted by witkdavis on 5/12/2010 & rated 90 points: Nice, aged and very drinkable (4214 views)
Tasted by The Drunken Cyclist on 3/11/2010 & rated 85 points: From 375. The cherries just jumped out of the glass. So much so that I double checked the bottle to make sure I grabbed the cab and not a cherry coke or something. For $5, though, a solid mid-week drink that helped get me through having to watch Grey's Anatomy with the wife. (3899 views)
Tasted by iamandyc on 2/6/2010 & rated 90 points: Very nice. Nose radiates black cherry, mint and some cedar with a touch of cranberry now and again. The palate was deep in dark fruits with a touch of tobacco. Tannins are mellow and enough acidity to keep from being flabby and keep you interested. (4481 views)
Tasted by dougie on 12/16/2009 & rated 90 points: love it! (4649 views)
Tasted by The Drunken Cyclist on 12/8/2009 & rated 88 points: From 375. This continues to surprise me. Nice nose of dark red fruit and a bit of oak. Good mouthfeel, decent finish. For $5? I will get some more. (4081 views)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in over 100 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
