Very fruity, though it has balanced extraction. Pretty pure blackberry and raspberry fruit. Mature now, but no rush. (812 views) | | Tasted by Ridgerunner on 9/30/2019 & rated 93 points: Exceptional (930 views) | | Tasted by Jahull03 on 8/15/2017: Lovely - tobacco, huckleberry, blackberry... mouthfeel and taste reminiscent of Bordeaux with some age. This bottle was drinking great. (1604 views) | | Tasted by Ridgerunner on 12/7/2016 & rated 93 points: Gorgeous, and very much alive! (1924 views) | | Tasted by Envall on 1/28/2013 & rated 98 points:
Black plum, cassis, currants, spice and toast (4150 views) | | Tasted by 1800kidney on 10/6/2012 & rated 90 points: Took to Pickberry Tasting Event at Ravenswood. Less flash than at last tasting, entering into a very solid well grounded phase, coming along nicely, lengthen the window (3815 views) | | Tasted by Palojohnson on 12/1/2011 & rated 100 points: Great Wine (4801 views) | | Tasted by hankj on 6/4/2011 & rated 89 points: good bottle of wine. Drinking very well now, still has enough tannin to hold up a few year and the fruit is pretty fresh. I'm happy I drank it. (3629 views) | | Tasted by kbhiggins on 11/28/2010 & rated 87 points: Cork disintegrated, but was able to filter out cork. Wine was really good in the first glass out of the bottle but then started to fade afterwards. Would drink this one up soon. (3490 views) | | Tasted by wmtodd70 on 3/3/2010 & rated 75 points: Tannic but not much else. (2179 views) | | Tasted by eastover on 11/1/2009: Sunday night at home with grilled steaks, a better match than last night. (2177 views) | | Tasted by eastover on 10/31/2009: At home with leftovers. Ok - not great. (2115 views) | | Tasted by Zinlady on 10/4/2009 & rated 94 points: Loved the wine it was ready to drink. Big, lots of fruit, great finish (2335 views) | | Tasted by Kryn13 on 7/5/2008: Very nice. Fruit is a bit more reserved than I remember from the last bottle. Opened up pretty quickly.
B+ (2323 views) | | Tasted by 1800kidney on 3/17/2008 & rated 92 points: Jumping out of the glass...big fruit presence in the nose (blackberries, plums, cassis) 69% merlot, 30% cabernet sauvignon and 2% cabernet franc according to the label. Not at all shy but not over the top either, developing nicely in the glass. The finish has a bit of pepper, and mint. Midpalate is silky and there is plenty of acidicty to carry this forward, would be delightful with duck in a redwine reduction and a bit of plum sauce (2474 views) | | Tasted by oski on 6/15/2007: Wanted a bit more fruit than this wine provided. Notes of heat, licorice and blackberry, better than the last bottle so maybe it is getting better with time. Medium finish. (2555 views) | | Tasted by oski on 4/21/2007 & rated 88 points: A bit closed upon opening, after 1 hour nose of blackberry and dark fruits, medium finish (2658 views) | | Tasted by jmd60611 on 2/14/2007 & rated 88 points: The kids liked this better than the 99 Frog's Leap that proceede it and so did I. A bit more layered and still had fruit to it's primary punch. Not much else there there (2764 views) | | Tasted by GalvezGuy on 1/23/2007 & rated 92 points: Great nose of plum, cassis, and red currants. Spice and toast flavors are added on the palate. Soft tannins on the finish. (2680 views) | | Tasted by jmd60611 on 1/16/2007 & rated 85 points: Nice enough bottle, but nothing memorable here...A bit tight and tannic with enough fruit missing in the feel to dissapoint me a bit... (2827 views) | | Tasted by BSpdx on 12/28/2006 & rated 88 points: Faint nose of floral and berries. Clear flavors of blackberries and chocolate. A touch lighter than I would have hoped and the finish was only average. (2912 views) | | Tasted by hutch on 6/5/2006: Trade show. Another pleasant surpise. Very distinct, great fruit, restrained. nice bottle. (2959 views) | | Tasted by mike connelly on 4/15/2004 & rated 86 points: Good, nice balance. | Ravenswood Producer websiteRed Bordeaux BlendRed Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.
Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino County |
