| Community Tasting Notes (average 92.5 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 4 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by buckeye76 on 4/18/2000 & rated 92 points: BLACK CHERRIES, RASPBERRIES, CHOCOLATE, AND LICORICE IN THE NOSE. FLAVOR LIKE THE NOSE WITH BLACK CHERRIES AND LICORICE. LONG FINISH. WILL BENEFIT FROM A FEW ADDITIONAL YEARS OF AGING. (877 views) | | Tasted by dbg on 12/5/1999: oaky, oaky, oaky, still has fruit there but as fruit has dropped off has fallenout of balance with oak taking over (2243 views) | | Tasted by mdefreitas on 2/18/1999 & rated 93 points: Zins @ Minetta Tavern (NYC): Very dark, very ripe black fruits. Lots of sweet oak, with a coconut hint, but good fruit to back it up. This was served blind, yet everyone could pick out the St. Francis signature. This is monster wine. (2997 views) | | Tasted by dbg on 6/3/1997: evolving faster than expected with quite nicely resolved tannins, but not as big & brawny as the last bottle, still plenty of fruit but not as in-your-face. I liked it better as a youthful brute but still quite good (2323 views) |

Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountySonoma CountySonoma Coast |
