Tasted by Vini Ciclismo on 3/24/2024 & rated 94 points: Medium weight ruby red, pale rim.
Gorgeous rich high-toned fragrance, red and black berries, crushed herbs, dark graphite and licorice spice, hints of leather and earth. Beautiful nose.
Medium weight, silky texture, has definitely softened, all the flavours come through from the nose, with a focus on crushed herbs and cassis. There is aged leather notes but in the background. Delicious, will age further. (203 views)
Tasted by rsbeck on 1/20/2024 & rated 94 points: Popped, poured, consumed over next 90 minutes. Started a little rough around the edges, but quickly and continually evolved, integrated and improved in the glass. Fine complexity and balance with a satisfying finish. Did not get barnyard or any other overt markers for brett. Seemed like a pretty clean bottle. (413 views)
Tasted by Paul D on 1/29/2023 & rated 93 points: 2/3, vg cork. Decanted 1/2 hr.
Immediately open and expressive nose with grilled meat, soil, mineral, mulch and underlying pure bilberry fruit. Florals too. Full bodied, rich, meaty, touch of mulch, mineral, soft tannins, lovely fresh acidity keeps this honest, long, harmonious finish. Excellent, drinking nicely but no need to hurry. (981 views)
Tasted by cfk49 on 10/10/2020 & rated 92 points: Much fresher than the bottle drunk three nights ago, plenty of Mourvèdre fruit, big bodied, but balanced. Cellared since original release. (2135 views)
Tasted by cfk49 on 10/7/2020 & rated 88 points: A tribute to Lulu Peyraud, who died today, but not a bottle that did her justice. 14.9% stated alcohol, and this wine is now beginning to slowly break up the way high alcohol wines often do. Rich, smooth, sensual, but lacking precision and beginning to lose what freshness it has. Cellared since original release. (2007 views)
Tasted by Lype on 8/27/2020: Powerful and a lot of concentration, umami and cherries, bite of salty licorice, good balance and long lingering aftertaste, excellent and good now but still going up, full of future potential. One of the best in the Tempier tasting. (1858 views)
Tasted by forceberry on 8/27/2020 & rated 94 points: The organically farmed grapes are sourced from a small amphitheater at the bottom of the Tourtine vineyard planted to mainly Mourvèdre. The cuvée is typically 90-95% Mourvèdre with the remainder rounded out with Syrah and a little bit of Cinsaut. Fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, macerated for 3-4 weeks, aged for approx. 18 months in large oak foudres. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. 14,9% alcohol. Tasted in a Tempier 2003-1990 tasting.

Surprisingly youthful, slightly translucent blackish-red color with a pale terracotta red rim. Brooding, concentrated and meaty nose with bold and subtly sweet-toned aromas of wizened figs, some dusty farmhouse funk, light jammy notes of blackcurrants and blueberries, a little bit of ripe black cherry, a developed hint of beef jerky and a touch of roasted spices. The wine is ripe, concentrated and chewy on the palate with intense, slightly sweet-toned flavors of pruney dark fruit, some animale notes of stable floor funk, light savory notes of gamey meat, a little bit of dried figs, a hint of blackcurrant jam and a touch of leather. The suave mouthfeel is silky smooth and the overall structure is firm yet not that tightly-knit, thanks to the moderately high acidity and quite resolved medium tannins. The finish is remarkably long, moderately grippy and quite savory with complex flavors of meaty umami, barnyard funk, some sweet black cherries, a little bit of jammy blackcurrants, light notes of roasted game, a hint of gravelly minerality and a developed touch of sweet raisiny fruit. The high alcohol makes the wine end on a rather hot note.

A wonderfully complex, harmonious and beautifully evolved Cabassaou. Unlike some of the more muscular examples of the old, stern Cabassaou, this vintage seems to be more in the vein of the 2000's Cabassaou cuvées, showing more emphasis on the plush, ripe and quite hedonistic fruit than on the more savory tones and structure. The wine is beautifully silky and there's some lovely softness to the wine, but it never comes across as flabby or a fat crowdpleaser. Furthermore, age has granted the wine some wonderfully savory, meaty and earthy qualities and there's a fine touch of bretty funk that only adds to the complexity without overwhelming any of the finer qualities here. All in all, a beautiful wine. I must say I favored the 90's Cabassaou wines we had over this vintage, but this is nevertheless a fine effort all the same. Highly recommended. (2530 views)
Tasted by Eric on 3/1/2018 & rated 94 points: Wow. Iron, earth, blood. Very animal elements on the nose. Deep, dark, bloody palate. Intensely mineral and dark. Fantastically mature at 18. Really enjoyable. Some spicecake elements beneath all of the iron and rust. Still some impressive tannin hanging on. (3425 views)
Tasted by dlduchon on 2/11/2018 & rated 97 points: Fantastic. One of the best Bandols I have had. Holding up well and drinking great. Nuanced, with just a touch of funk that adds another dimension. (1525 views)
Tasted by saturnaisland on 4/17/2016 & rated 90 points: Rich deep dark brooding fruit flavours. Some earthiness. Tannins are there but smooth. Alcohol is a bit high for me but is balanced somewhat by depth and richness of the wine. Seems to have a long life ahead. (2792 views)
Tasted by dlduchon on 2/1/2015 & rated 97 points: This is one of the best Bandols I have had. Perfect balance, great earthiness with a hint of funkiness. Long finish, the right tannins and acid to equate to a wine in equilibrium. Great richness, but not too much. This wine will age for a long time and perhaps improve picking up even more complexity. Spectacular. (3400 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 3/9/2013 & rated 87 points: Opaque purple red violet color; brett, barnyard, tar, roasted plum, Folger's coffee nose; barnyard, horseradish, roasted plum, mineral palate; medium-plus finish (too much brett to be enjoyable) (531 views)
Tasted by cfk49 on 7/10/2012 & rated 92 points: Second of a bottle of six. Very Mourvèdre in its dark earthiness in nose and mouth. Still quite a bit of acidity, medium-weight with some sweetness from fruit, plenty of tannin. Outstanding, possibly even great, bottle down the road, but patience is required. Drink 2018-2038+. (4526 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 7/1/2011 & rated 90 points: Of the three special cuvees of Tempier this is the most youthful one, but not the best at this moment. There is pleasant barnyard in the bouquet together with spices and pleasant freshness. On the palate full bodied with still a bit unfriendly tannin and soft, drying bitterness in the finish. A complete, complex and firm wine. I will score the wine for the pleasure of the moment, but in the long run it might gain one or two points and will show that this was the best 2000 that was made. (3785 views)
Tasted by jkoenen on 5/29/2011 & rated 90 points: Tempier Tasting @ Joost B. (Netherlands): One combined impression of 3 wines. This was a great flight which showed us the differences between these three cuvees in a wonderful way. Migoua is the graceful one, the most feminine wine. Still very convincing and strong. Cabassaou has more Mourvedre and therefore is more rustic, stubborn and unforgiving, warranting cellar time. For me, Tourtine is the golden mean. This is all about balance, combining nobility and the countryside. Like a horse stable. (4686 views)
Tasted by Paul D on 12/26/2009 & rated 94 points: Youthful appearance with opaque, ruby core, pale narrow ruby rim. Intense, complex nose showing ripe blackcurrant and bilberry fruit, meaty notes. Notes of chococlate and decay. Rich but also fresh. Full bodied on the palate, lovely ripe, pure, juicy black fruit on initial attack, meaty, chocolate and rich earth notes, very deep and long on the mid-palate with still slightly chewy but fine and ripe tannins, a burst of fresh acidity carrying a long, juicy, black-fruited finish with a touch of firmness right at the tail end. Exceptional Bandol, certainly big but balanced and complex. Drinking now but absolutely no hurry. (3245 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 3/17/2007 & rated 94 points: La Provence OL (La Provence Restaurant, San Francisco, CA): Savory, beefy nose; olive, leather, black fruit, lavender, good complexity and acid; tangy toward medium-plus finish (2271 views)
Tasted by Vini Ciclismo on 11/13/2005 & rated 95 points: Gruner and Mourvedre lunch with David Burkit (Bathers Pavillion): sweaty, salty, hugely interesting
deeply flavoured, intense, delicious sherbet spice (747 views)

U.S. Importer (Addt'l Info)

Domaine Tempier is located at Le Plan du Castellet. Its vineyards stretch over three different communities- Le Castellet, Le Beausset and La Cadière. The plots of land are thus far apart and require extra work. But the soil of these different areas yield distinctive cuvées -Spéciale, Migoua, Tourtine and Cabassaou - as well as interesting and complex blends for white, rosé and red wines.
Domaine Tempier owns 30 hectares. It produces AOC Bandol exclusively - an average of 68% red, 29% rosé and 3% white wines, approximately 120,000 bottles per year
