Tasted by Yamadori on 5/29/2012 & rated 89 points: Left to breathe in the bottle for about 3 hours. This wine is definitely improving. Blackberry and dark cherry fruit with notes of smoked meat, mushroom pepper and spice. 25 second finish with moderate tannins. great value at $15. Wish i had more of this! (5119 views)
Tasted by Yamadori on 3/26/2012 & rated 88 points: Decanted 1 hour. Pretty similar to previous TN from 2010. Seems to have put on a little weight but still has nice black cherry fruit and nice notes of game, pepper and spice. Still has tannins to shed and is likely to get better in the short term. Excellent QPR. (4200 views)
Tasted by gharbour on 4/19/2011 & rated 88 points: Plum and pepper. Tannins still rough. A good CDR but give it a another year to mature. (5224 views)
Tasted by EMTAME on 8/16/2010 & rated 91 points: Deep crushed purple velvet in the glass. There's a bit of funk on opening, which recedes with air to become an interesting back note. This beautiful Southern Rhone syrah blend has come a long way since my last bottle, around New Year's. Black fruits, black pepper, and smooth, rounded tannins glide into a pleasing, medium-length finish. Drink up - this is at peak. (5611 views)
Tasted by Yamadori on 6/17/2010 & rated 88 points: Quite horsey on opening but a 2 hour decant revealed a gamey nose with dark fruit and a little tobacco. Nice fruit with black cherry flavor an notes of mushroom and black pepper. Moderate finish with smooth tannins. Very good wine which is a good QPR at $15. (5628 views)
Tasted by EMTAME on 1/6/2010 & rated 90 points: Nice, with a pleasant musky note on the nose. Medium to full body, with none of the drying tannins seen in the '05 recently. Good QPR for about $15. (3119 views)
Tasted by lolo66 on 12/25/2009 & rated 90 points: impressive for the money (3178 views)
Tasted by yeti575rider on 12/7/2009 & rated 88 points: Was suprised but this definitely needed some air to open up. Not overly strong nose but some interesting caramel and cedar notes. Medium bodied with mostly cherry fruit. Not usually a CDR fan but pretty good overall. (3364 views)
Tasted by IB71 on 11/14/2009 & rated 91 points: Medium garnet.

Clean nose dominated by pronounced animal notes (leather, barnyard) and medium red and black fruit (strawberry, blackberry).

Medium bodied, with medium acidity and medium (+) tannins. Ripe - even slightly raisiny - red and black fruit (strawberry, blackberry) and pronounced animal notes (leather, barnyard) - with a touch of spicy oak. Medium lenght.

Exceptionally good for the price. This will pair perfectly with almost any gamey dish that I can think of. (3449 views)
Tasted by tantotinto on 10/14/2009 & rated 89 points: Served at 64 degrees. Nice aromatics with a definite Syrah gaminess. Tannins are well integrated. Medium weight. Plush fruit flavor with hints of mocha. A very nice wine. It is not as concentrated as many of the St-Cosme wines from this vintage but has similar elements. Best of all it is drinking very well right now. No need to wait! (3464 views)
Tasted by no leashes on 9/13/2009 & rated 89 points: Pepper, dark cherry, cassis and meat flavors, nice structure. Drinking beautifully. (3427 views)
Tasted by wihong on 7/17/2009 & rated 88 points: Color: Dark purple with purple-brown rim. Aroma: Herbal, mushroom, pepper, dried spices, sweet cherry with air exposure. Taste: Massive body, very fruity, juicy cherry, floral. Very tannic. Alcoholic. Finish: Ginger, fresh fig, oak, mushroom. Can hold on a little longer. Little rough, but massive body full of fruits. (3558 views)
Tasted by Chasse on 7/9/2009 & rated 90 points: just a great wine for the money. wish we had more. (3821 views)
Tasted by thomasito2001 on 3/20/2009 & rated 92 points: This wine only revealed its potential after staying a couple of days in the fridge. To truly appreciate the intensity and symphony of flavors this wine has in store, make sure to give it a good decanting or wait a couple of years. A great wine by all means. (4002 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 1/24/2009: Medium color. Unmistakable Rhone signature of anise, rosemary, menthol, and blackberry. Medium weight, lean feel that frankly tends toward astringency at the end with the acidity and tannins overriding the dark fruit. I liked this more 6 months ago and would advise to drink up. Not a tender, fruit forward wine in the mold of the vintage. (3930 views)
Tasted by chitowncdpguy on 12/24/2008 & rated 88 points: Muted nose and palate. Some red berry fruits, spice, and earth. Tannic. Interesting. (3982 views)
Tasted by WetRock on 12/4/2008: Black Sheep Bistro (Black Sheep Bistro, Tustin, CA): Tight nose with a touch of brett. Very rich and extracted. Tons of tannin and very concentrated. This needs plenty of time but should be a bargain in a few years. (4556 views)
Tasted by dabovino on 10/4/2008 & rated 90 points: Parker's review is spot on. Yummy stuff and a great value. (3938 views)
Tasted by spacewrangler on 9/27/2008 & rated 90 points: I'm normally not a CdR fan but this had an enticing nose of melted toffee/caramel and honey ham. Very graceful with a nice acdic lift to the fruit. (3856 views)
Tasted by hfogle on 9/6/2008 flawed bottle: bad bottle (3862 views)
Tasted by ProfessorHTF on 7/17/2008 & rated 90 points: Opened this wine tonight in a relatively crappy mood. Happily, this wine changed it somewhat. Thank you Jason and Andy for suggesting it. What a killer for a CdR...nose unfolds with various rich dark fruit and some herb, forest floor and dried mushroom. Some heat on the nose that burned away after awhile. Trademark mourvedre tar and licorice, yum. Will buy more if I can find it. (3809 views)
Tasted by DoubleMagnum on 7/15/2008 & rated 88 points: One of my favorite CDRs. This one is still a bit young. Lay it down for another year or so... It's got great potential. Great amount of extract, good concentration and tannic grip. (3713 views)
Tasted by jsums on 7/10/2008 & rated 90 points: Dense dark red color. Assertive nose: overripe strawberry, raspberry, dark chocolate, cinnamon, wet leather. Very nice. Focused on the palate with blackberry, dusty cherry, anise, and earth. Finishes quite long with stem and bitter walnut in the back. Intense. Maybe a bit too bitter, but it's sure got something to say. Moderately firm tannins. It should improve with a couple years in the bottle allowing the flavors to expand and the bitterness and tannins to mellow a little. Excellent CDR. Great value. Would hold its own quite well against a Chateauneuf or Gigondas.

Day 2: Has added a wonderful Bleu Cheese aroma. Bitterness has mellowed out somewhat. Fantastic! (3758 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 7/6/2008: Casual Farmers' Market Dinner: Medium to dark purple. Forward nose of garrigue, mint, and bitter chocolate. Not a huge wine in the mouth, and it has pleasing acidity and tannic bite accompanying its black fruit and licorice tones. Very different and much less cuddly than the regular Cotes du Rhone, but at a similar high level of quality, clearly performing well above its class. Another great value from St. Cosme. (4106 views)
Tasted by Cahill on 6/21/2008 & rated 90 points: Dark reddish purple color. Violets, blackberries and meat on the nose. Nicely balanced in the mouth with lots of roasted red meat and cassis with a hint of herbs. Round tannic finish of not insignificant length. Not as ageworthy as his Gigondas, but short term, there is not much difference at half the price. Good value to be found here. (3777 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
