No flavor (303 views) | | Tasted by PDavisMarble on 4/29/2017 & rated 87 points: A bit of bricking on the edge. An unusual flavor profile. A bit vegetal and smoky at the start. Opened up to a pleasant, middle - raspberry, plum, currants and forest floor. Some smoke and moss with a hint of leather. (939 views) | | Tasted by Nike-Raider on 1/14/2016 & rated 90 points: The last bottle I rated was over two years ago. That cork crumbled on extraction. that wine was mediocre and I withheld a rating.
This time the cork was perfect and the wine, beautiful. As you would expect this has little fruit and a lot of dark flavors. If you have any left, drink it now. (1288 views) | | Tasted by Nike-Raider on 4/10/2013: The cork crumbled and was impossible to extract. I pushed it in with a chopstick and decanted using a wire screen filter.
At five minutes there was a lot of red fruit on the nose, raspberry, cherry, cranberry. On the pallet the wine was thin with hints of leather and minerals.
A longer decant of 1 hour produced no miracles. The fruit had faded, leaving dark, earthy flavors. The wine is still drinkable, but well past its prime so I won't give it a score. (2322 views) | | Tasted by tcfishler on 9/1/2009: Dark murky garnet. Similarly dark nose of seared beef, black olive, and worm-ridden soil. Still a chunky, juicy, satisfying mouthful, with a nice lifted cranberry finish. A gem that has aged better than anyone would have expected. Lots of raspberry, and red fruits, some sweetness, mineral and leather. Nice finish that lasted. Still a lovely deep red, with great legs. Developed well, but we ran out before it could develop more. Drunk without food. (3284 views) | | Tasted by Mr T on 9/24/2007 & rated 92 points: Inauspicious start with crumbling cork and horrible smell that was definitely in the barnyard/fecal camp. With time and despite a bunch of cork still in the wine due to a a poor job filtering through cheesecloth, the wine proved to be very nice. Still very dark but tannins resolved and a core of sweet, pure cab fruit. Really much better than expected and worked very nicely with a dinner of flank steak. (3012 views) | | Tasted by rmgroves on 4/10/2005: Initial nose funky (reminded me of cooked cabbage) but burned off quickly. Opened 90 minutes mellowed and still showing some good fruit. Very nice wine (3545 views) |

| Beringer Vineyards Producer websiteRed Bordeaux BlendRed Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.
Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino County |
