Community Tasting Notes (average 89.8 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 25 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by AllRed on 9/1/2017 & rated 90 points: Zinfandels Ten or Older (Gen Hoe, Geneva): Blind. Red berry fruit, bramble, red plum and clay notes. Red fruit and spice on the palate. Drinking at peak. (2012 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 5/20/2017 & rated 84 points: 39th Annual Zinfandel Retrospective - the 2012s (R&D's): Shows a bit of bricking. At first this is a bit stewy/tomatoey, with red fruit underneath. Flavors of red fruit, raisin, peppery spices and meaty/pepperoni-like qualities. Kind of odd, a bit stewy. Not something I need more than a small taste of. Well past peak at this point, assuming this is a representative bottle. (1951 views)
Tasted by suburbanfrog on 12/29/2014 & rated 92 points: Solid as always. Lots of life left in this great Zin. Probably one of the best Zinfandels from the Pacific Northwest year in and year out! (2131 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 5/27/2013 & rated 92 points: A bunch of Sineann: This is ageing very slowly albeit steadily. The nose is big with bramble, raspberries, and cherry liqueur. On the palate, this has some complexity, but very much in the Zin camp (as opposed to some older Zins that turn Bdx like). Great mouth feel. Delicious wine, great with home grilled pizza. (3374 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 5/27/2012 & rated 90 points: 34th Annual Zinfandel Retrospective - the 2007s (Rich & Dana's): Crimson color. Not very Zin-like; aromas of earth, herbs and green, vegetal qualities (in a good way), with meaty undertones. Nice fruit on the palate, also has herb and white pepper qualities. Medium finish with nice acidity.

My #6
Group #2, 37 pts (3192 views)
Tasted by mmcdds on 11/1/2011 & rated 88 points: Very nice. Med bodied with soft, forward, dark fruit and underlying white pepper. Not overly complex and the finish is abit short, but overall, quite enjoyable. (2458 views)
Tasted by BernieMSY on 10/17/2011 & rated 92 points: Inky dark, integrated and powerful. Alcoholic, yet balanced. Good effort (2422 views)
Tasted by hiker_guy on 8/23/2011: Popped and poured. Decent pairing with pasta. Enjoyed it. Would buy again. (1877 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 5/6/2011 & rated 92 points: 2 Chard, 8 Zins, 2 Ports: This was mine and the groups WOTN. Perhaps because it was from Washington fruit, it was a bit of an outlier. Purple in color, shimmering bright. The nose is the smoothest of all, showing the least alcohol. Lots of black cherries. On the palate, sweet black cherry fruit. Great texture. Slight heat on the finish. Very nice wine and seems like its best days are ahead. (2710 views)
Tasted by BernieMSY on 11/26/2010 & rated 90 points: Lots of delicious fruit, but balanced, restrained and harmonious. Not as over-the-top as the Turkey Hayne vineyard it was up against (1791 views)
Tasted by efc on 8/18/2010 & rated 89 points: A little hot from the alcohol but had a nice edge of minerality in the nose and palate that set off nicely from the blackberry fruit. Good concentration with a deep purple edge. A nice change from fruit bombs and over extracted zins that have a prune-raisin domination. (1892 views)
Tasted by manonthemoon on 5/11/2010 & rated 90 points: Notes from day 2. Dark red to purple in color. Nose of mixed raspberry, cocao, and pepper. On the palate there is more mixed raspberry, briar, hint of dark chocolate, little spice, and black pepper. The finish is average in length and the wine has decent balance, maybe a hair flabby to some. Drink or hold. 50+5+11+17+7 (1695 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 4/30/2010 & rated 92 points: Real enjoyable and truly unique culty Zinfandel. Femenine in style. Not too jammy or over the top despite its 15.1% alcohol level.
Creamy textured spicy dark red berries. Plush and opulent. Would not have guessed this was a Zinfandel. Pink and white pepper dominate the nose along with nice fruit.
Very nice wine. Recommended as an alternative to California Zin. (1811 views)
Tasted by Clarkmeister on 1/9/2010 & rated 90 points: Spicy and yummy. (1891 views)
Tasted by manonthemoon on 3/26/2009 & rated 89 points: From a 375 open for 3 or 4 hours. Purple color with a red rim. On the nose I get dark black black raspberry and a little red in there as well as a hint of cocao dust, with a little pepper on the end. On the palate black raspberry initially, then red raspberry, a little unripe strawberry, with a little briar action, a hint of dark chocolate, and black pepper on the tail end. The finish is a little below average and I sense a little nothing major. Good balance to the wine as there is enough acidity there to keep the fruit from overpowering. Decent offering, but not as good as the 06. Will hold other bottle for at least a year. Drink or Hold. 50+5+11+16+7 (2083 views)
Tasted by KPB on 3/16/2009 & rated 91 points: Another fantastic success from Pete Rosback, my favorite Zinfandel producer. This wine shares the crunchy red fruits from the 2006, but has a slightly richer, more creamy texture. A powerful but elegantly balanced Zinfandel. Just awesome for the varietal. (2321 views)
Tasted by chad1616 on 2/12/2009 & rated 83 points: The wine was not ballanced - too hot (1190 views)
Tasted by Clarkmeister on 12/28/2008 & rated 89 points: Holiday wine/food party (Home): 2nd bottle from the case. Needs more decanting time than I gave it (45 minutes). Still, lucious red fruit with a good finish. A hair flabby. (2559 views)
Tasted by Clarkmeister on 11/15/2008 & rated 91 points: Needed about 30 minutes of air to settle down, but once it did boy was this nice. Pepper, spice and a finish that just blossoms. Can't wait to drink again. (2140 views)
Tasted by kanab ram on 10/11/2008: Couldn't wait so popped and poured after shipment arrived. Raspberry, pepper, little to no heat, and silky on the palate and finish. In my opinion, one of the better vintage of Sineann's old vine zins in the past decade. Low 90's. (2164 views)
Tasted by hiker_guy on 9/30/2008: Nice wine. A friend recommended we buy this and it is a very nice find. No notes tonight though beyond we enjoyed it. (2131 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
