| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.1 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 19 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by nospeel on 11/9/2011 & rated 93 points: Clear pale yellow. Orange and honeysuckle nose - not too floral (which often is the case with CA Viognier). A little pineapple and spice on the palate - with a wonderful bit of salinity that contrasts beautifully with the fruit. Lovely finish with nice brace of minerality. Love it! (2318 views) | | Tasted by jrf on 2/27/2011 & rated 93 points: really nice wine, long minerally finish with some stone fruit flavors (2506 views) | | Tasted by jrf on 12/12/2009 & rated 85 points: This one personally didn't sit well with me. I didn't have the floral notes I expect in a viognier, and the fruit was flat. (2609 views) | | Tasted by NotNYC on 11/14/2009: great example of the evolving CA Viognier style. Not as floral and fruit fwd as the Central Coast Rhone Rangers. That subtle restraint and the wonderfully complex finish wins me over. Still not convinced. (2672 views) | | Tasted by Amerique on 8/21/2009 & rated 89 points: flowery (2805 views) | | Tasted by jmh st louis on 6/15/2009 & rated 90 points: tropical fruit and orange peel. (1543 views) | | Tasted by liberati on 2/16/2009: All the components I like in a Viognier, plus violet! Terrific with a mustard-glazed chicken breast. (1805 views) | | Tasted by jjclips2 on 12/20/2008 & rated 91 points: DuMOL Prebuy (K&L Distributors): Rich aromatics of tropical fruits, orange blossoms, and coriander. Nice acidity up front with only moderate richness. The floral element follows through on the palate with white pepper. Unique and enjoyable, but not cheap. (2029 views) | | Tasted by FakeAccount on 11/18/2008 & rated 91 points: Another great bottle. The wine is showing more of a floral component on the nose... it was very nice with some Asian fare. (1666 views) | | Tasted by Deb293 on 11/6/2008 & rated 90 points: I'm liking this better the second time around; the exotic tropical flavors are showing their stuff. Maybe it was too long since I had a Viognier, so I tasted a white Hermitage to get the palate revved up again. This shows quite well in comparison. (1707 views) | | Tasted by Deb293 on 10/31/2008 & rated 88 points: Tasty, but a bit nondescript. Served blind, I don't think you would know what you were drinking. Some heat masks the spicy, exotic Viognier character I'm expecting. Could it be too young? I have one more bottle, so we'll see. (1680 views) | | Tasted by FakeAccount on 10/15/2008 & rated 92 points: Great example of a viognier. Blossoms and honeysuckle on the nose. Good weight and nice finish. Drinking well now. This is nonsense.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountyRussian River Valley Russian River Valley Winegrowers Association | Wikipedia |
