Community Tasting Notes (average 88.1 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 37 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by ccotton8 on 12/22/2015 & rated 91 points: Well this was a cellar surprise, thought I was pulling a dumper but turned out to beautifully light almost a Pinot. It gained a little weight with air but this had no sign of fatigue, another bottle that disappeared way too fast. (1983 views)
Tasted by Fishboy on 3/30/2012 & rated 84 points: Seemed pruney on the nose. Did not improve on day two. (3353 views)
Tasted by Red Ghost on 11/28/2011 & rated 90 points: Nice Zin - bold fruit and medium tannins. Goes well with burgers, pizza and similar foods. (3588 views)
Tasted by indiscriminate palate on 11/1/2010: Medium-deep ruby. Pronounced nose of cherry, plum, a red and black fruit salad. Very juicy (jammy), big zin with medium dusty tannins, good medium acidity, and a medium-to-long mouth-coating finish. Not my style of zin. (4078 views)
Tasted by gmbdds on 7/18/2010 & rated 89 points: Full bodied with plenty of dark berry notes. Seems more polished and structured than my last (unscored) memory of this wine. The back palate hints at certain syrahs and the finish is rich. (4307 views)
Tasted by Jet Winer on 7/16/2010 & rated 91 points: Cherry, pepper and dark chocolate nuances. a consistent producers of fine Cabs and Zins. (2810 views)
Tasted by jamesr on 7/4/2010 & rated 92 points: Very good with great fruit forward (2024 views)
Tasted by RobertDwyer on 6/11/2010 & rated 89 points: Quite a bit nicer than the 06 I had recently. Very enjoyable juicy Zin with nice depth. (2447 views)
Tasted by bigdogflow on 3/17/2010 & rated 89 points: Popped and poured. Much more enjoyable than last bottle. Aging did this bottle well. Lots of typical Cali Zin flavors with a nice, medium finish. (2122 views)
Tasted by cummingstom1 on 3/6/2010 & rated 86 points: raspberry with some spice (1479 views)
Tasted by cmr on 3/2/2010 & rated 89 points: Strong 89. Didn't overwhelm me enough to push into the 90's but very solid. Well balanced dark berry fruits with spice all rolled up in a nice structure with a good finish. (2175 views)
Tasted by robnmo on 10/22/2009 & rated 88 points: Opened and let sit for about 30 minutes. Ran first few glasses through the vinturi. On the nose there is cinnamon, spice, and some blueberries. On the palate there is spicy raspberries, blackberries and a touch of blueberries. The spicy component lingers in the mouth for a decent time. Not overly complex. I'm sure that there are better values in Zin out there. (2465 views)
Tasted by alandf on 9/20/2009 & rated 89 points: Pleasing juicy big and jammy. (2569 views)
Tasted by terroir on 9/6/2009 & rated 88 points: needs a little. Blackberry, bluberry, spice and pinch of pepper...nice softer finish than expected. (2809 views)
Tasted by EJRothman on 8/30/2009 & rated 86 points: big bold Zin. Spicy and powerful. A bit heavy on the oak for my tastes. I think this will mellow over time. (2782 views)
Tasted by Wine Sparty on 7/26/2009 & rated 90 points: Had a purple and ruby red appearance, with an interesting nose of black cherry, jam, pepper & vanilla. Range of taste include spice & earthiness, as well as black cherry, blackberry, and chocolate / coffee. The finish had light tannins witha touch of sweetness. Overall, a good wine with rich fruit flavors and spice mixed in. (2302 views)
Tasted by bvwino on 7/18/2009 & rated 90 points: Decanted for 30 minutes. Very nice. Dark, with integrated tannins. Nice fruit. Nice feel. Second day not so good. (2767 views)
Tasted by mikec42 on 7/4/2009 & rated 89 points: Popped & Poured..Thought it was very fruitful, flavorful and smooth. Nice tannins and short but nice finish...Highly recommend. (2912 views)
Tasted by Riezin on 6/28/2009: Tasty, a bit primary, a tad hot, but overall enjoyable and good QPR. (2939 views)
Tasted by tairanosaurus on 6/15/2009: echo other tasters. don't pop and pour. after decant improves substantially. (2920 views)
Tasted by *Vine* on 6/4/2009 & rated 89 points: Popped and poured. Medium-plus red-violet hue. Aromas of bramble fruits, cinnamon graham cracker, incense, mixed spices, and a touch of heat. Also some funk from reduction which quickly blew off. Medium-plus body. On the palate, this youthful Zinfandel displays great flavors of fruit (blackberry, raspberry, plum) and spice from oak. Although a touch of heat detracts, the flavors are a very nice juxtaposition between the modern, ripe style of Zin and the more traditional claret style. Smooth tannins. Should age well for a few years and maybe peak within the next 1-2. (3103 views)
Tasted by Grape_ape on 6/2/2009 & rated 90 points: On the pop and pour, I would tend to side with most of the so-so notes on this wine. Had quite a bit of heat, a bit rough, and based on that impression I would score it in the low to mid 80's. However, this improved dramatically on day two, so this deserves a long decant or more time in bottle. Lots of raspberry, boysenberry with some subtle chocolaty/mocha/vanilla notes. (2973 views)
Tasted by jad1964 on 5/29/2009 & rated 89 points: one hour decant. would call this decent. not big and fruity like some others. pretty straight-forward but worth the money. (2918 views)
Tasted by slywka7 on 5/2/2009 & rated 92 points: Earth and cherry on the nose. Earth, black cherry and dusty berry on the palate. Nice Zin. (471 views)
Tasted by VinoPKM on 4/25/2009 & rated 83 points: Zins of Spring (Wine Exchange- Orange, CA): I would agree with the previous reviewer- past vintages were a lot better. Way too green and earthy. Was a little better with food, but hard to tell if this will get better. Pass for now. (3983 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
