Tasted by bugdoced on 11/29/2015 & rated 92 points: simply delicious in a good new world way (1141 views)
Tasted by AdamHeeter on 11/28/2015: Disappointing for the price. (927 views)
Tasted by mgstull on 8/31/2015 & rated 90 points: Starting to round into form. Dark purple. The fruit is moving towards center stage with blackberry, cassis, cherry, herbs, tobacco, and a pronounced mineral streak. Tannins have largely resolved. Elegant rather than powerful. 1 hr decant. (1768 views)
Tasted by AEROSMITH on 8/16/2015 & rated 91 points: lots of life left to go (1548 views)
Tasted by gmbdds on 4/25/2015 & rated 88 points: Strong oak influence and a lot of blackberry. Probably comes from some nice fruit, but not particularly complex. (2561 views)
Tasted by Domer99 on 3/2/2015 & rated 90 points: Brick in color, with a very strong fruit nose of blackberry and rasberry. The tannins are well resolved and the wine is just delicious. I don't know if this is the sort of bottle that will "improve" much with more age, because it is in a great spot right now with the integration of the tannins. (2587 views)
Tasted by lockandkey2 on 2/21/2015 & rated 91 points: A wonderful wine. Could/should have held another 3-5 years. Dark cocoa initially, with wonderful red and black cherries on the nose, very well balanced acidity and alcohol. (2289 views)
Tasted by redz on 2/15/2015 & rated 93 points: just great now, lots of time to go (1835 views)
Tasted by redz on 1/1/2015 & rated 92 points: medium body, solid cab (2209 views)
Tasted by Mezzomorto on 12/8/2014 & rated 92 points: Rich dark berries, mid of licorice, tannins are soft. (2147 views)
Tasted by MrD on 11/28/2014: Peppery with nice dark fruit. (1642 views)
Tasted by Dexter Morgan on 11/14/2014 & rated 92 points: High-toned aromas of cherries, red currants, pencil shavings, chocolate, sandalwood, and tree bark. The palate is assertive, yet displays clarity, length, and youthful vigor on a beautifully structured, full-bodied frame. A deep layered core of fruit and spice is supported by youthful tannins that stick with you on the compelling finish. Excellent now but will improve in the cellar. (1652 views)
Tasted by Bandreas on 9/22/2014 & rated 88 points: Dark color, still some purple there. quite fruit forward. Good wine if not terribly complex. (2457 views)
Tasted by TastesGoodToMe on 9/18/2014 & rated 91 points: Very nice wine. In a good place right now but still plenty of time. (1871 views)
Tasted by Berevino on 8/26/2014 & rated 84 points: Extremely short finish. Hints of berries early, but dissipates after swallowing. (1968 views)
Tasted by iwadasn on 6/13/2014 & rated 92 points: Luscious, velvety. A little tart on opening, but mellowed with time. Very drinkable now. (2777 views)
Tasted by Mezzomorto on 5/26/2014 & rated 92 points: Very ripe and lush fruit. Candied raspberry, ripe strawberry, black cherry. White pepper in a medium acidity midpalate, finish is still lightly tannic. Perfect in 2-5 years. (2719 views)
Tasted by Dmahan76 on 4/18/2014 & rated 92 points: Straight out of the bottle is instant goodness. This is a great wine and reminds me of how the first bottle of Cakebread was over 8 years ago. First impression is smooth and velvety on your tongue. Flavors hit the top and sides of the tongue. Some cherry, some tobacco. I pick up what I like to call bark....that little bit of woodsy bitter? (2711 views)
Tasted by JackieTreehorn on 3/10/2014 & rated 91 points: Similar to prior notes (3149 views)
Tasted by JGerbasIII on 2/21/2014 & rated 84 points: Overpriced, very little depth, short finish. (2950 views)
Tasted by Lee Fining on 2/15/2014 & rated 88 points: Medium garnet red, clear and bright with pink hue in the rim. Upon opening, aromas of rich, dark fruit, sweet oak, carmel, green beans, green pepper and a hint of solvent. The wine was tight so allowed it to breath for 1 hour before tasting. Flavors of black pepper, tart red fruit and tar. As the wine continued to open up, the fruit continued to come forward, but never reached a focal point. Tannins were surprisingly apparent, yet somewhat refined. The bottle at significant sediment at the end so decanting is recommended. Good wine with roast meats. (2147 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 12/24/2013 & rated 90 points: Dense, opaque, ruby color with pink halo, showing rather young age. Nose confirms age, with secondary aromas, fresh fruit giving way to a more mature , vinous character with an overlay of acidity and oak.
Medium-full body, softned but not yet silky texture, tight-knit flavor, at times grapey, dark red berries, cherry, more oak, lingering sweetly into a fruity but balanced finish. (2611 views)
Tasted by joshabramson on 12/12/2013 & rated 91 points: Nice classic napa cab. A bit on the simple side, but very enjoyable. (2810 views)
Tasted by alabunka on 10/12/2013 & rated 91 points: Very good classic California cabernet sauvignon with medium tannins, good structure, medium fruit, and very good finish. Needs time to decant and open up. (3685 views)
Tasted by mgstull on 10/5/2013 & rated 90 points: Lots of structure. Black fruit, moderate tannins. After two hours not giving up much. I think this needs lots more time. (3095 views)

Cakebread Cellars

Producer website
Over 30 years ago, Jack Cakebread came to photograph the Napa Valley for a book and while there, he casually mentioned his interest in one day owning a vineyard to some family friends who had a ranch in Rutherford. When he returned home that afternoon, the phone rang and it was the family friends offering to sell their property. He headed back up to the valley that same afternoon to make his best offer, and Cakebread Cellars was born. As the Cakebread family reflects upon the many profound changes in the wine industry over the last 33 years, such as innovative farming techniques and new methods of reaching out to consumers, they note that their key values have remained the same. Dedication to making the highest quality wines and a commitment to family has followed a continuum as their first small vineyard has grown into a thriving internationally distributed wine company.

California Wines (Wine Institute of California)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in over 100 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.

2013 Vintage Notes:
"Napa Valley and virtually all of the North Coast of California (which obviously includes Sonoma and Mendocino Counties as well) has been on a qualitative tear since 2012. 2012 was a great vintage for nearly every varietal in North Coast California, but what is even more remarkable is that 2013 may turn out to be the finest vintage I have experienced in tasting North Coast varietals over the last 37 years. It's a game-changer in terms of the consistency of quality, the depth of quality, and the across-the-board excellence for so many wines." - Robert Parker
