Tasted by Frank Murray III on 6/1/2019: Disgorged January 2015, dosage of 3 g/l, base of 2011 and 100% Chardonnay. Apple, lime, nuts. This has a lightly oxidative quality, with some finishing spine. I believe this is drinking well enough now, expressive and kind of soft, yet delicious....retasting the following day, kept under tight seal the bubbles are in good shape a day later. A yeasty note is prevalent today, along with some pounded rock in the aromatic. I would call this more complex today, more evolved, with some better structure and tension evident. The fruit remains an apple-centric wine, with some lime drizzle running through it, less oxidative that I can perceive, too. Very good. (3746 views)
Tasted by nphase on 3/22/2019 & rated 93 points: Disgorged March 2017 (3449 views)
Tasted by acyso on 3/22/2019 & rated 93 points: Dinner at Margeaux Brasserie (Chicago, IL): Disgorged March 2017 (so I think 2013 base?). Bright and powerful, with lots of exuberant tart fruit. This is pretty light and elegant, and holds its acidity well. It's definitely on the racy, high-acid side of things, but the overall ripeness here seems to work nicely. A nice touch of chalky minerality here as well. Overall, even though I'm not generally a massive fan of these high-acid expressions of champagne, I think this bottle does a really good job of balancing everything out. (3552 views)
Tasted by moods on 12/15/2018 & rated 92 points: Toasty brioche nose. Apples. Sense of what’s to come. Palate begins with some toasted nuts, then some creamy leesy flavors, and finally a bitter apple finish. You can tell it’s extra brut / low dosage. Splendid wine. (2045 views)
Tasted by slywka7 on 2/1/2018 & rated 94 points: This was a beautiful Champagne with notes of toast, bread dough and berry. Ended with a long finish. (2079 views)
Tasted by acyso on 1/17/2018 & rated 90 points: Dinner at Margeaux Brasserie (Chicago, IL): Disgorged October 2010, 0 g/L dosage. Perhaps the oldest zero dosage I've had yet. The wine seems to show more secondary characteristics than I'd expect, even for its age. There's a little bit of nuttiness, but mostly, the story of the day is the big pile of acid. Yes, there are some minerals and some citrus to give that pile of acid some interest, but I'm not sure it's enough. I think we caught this at a time before it thinned out even more. To get on my soapbox for a minute, I'd like to just say that sugar is a preservative. (2772 views)
Tasted by tominasia on 8/11/2017 & rated 90 points: Was over chilled when opened and tasted strongly acidic and citrus. As the bottle warmed it became more aromatic and the acidity softened. Excellent bottle. (2217 views)
Tasted by western on 7/22/2017: 2007 base. Disgorged 2010. Zero dosage!! Bone dry. Mouth biting searing acidity. Great if you like this style but to me over the top.
Needs more fruit to carry the minerality!!! (2274 views)
Tasted by Frank Murray III on 5/28/2017: This went down pretty fast. Shared across 4 glasses, and I thought this was solid bubbly. Listed at 3 g/l on the back label, it drinks close to that in tone. Lemon and apple. (2608 views)
Tasted by acyso on 5/11/2017 & rated 93 points: Rioja dinner at Phil's (Chicago, IL): 2012 base, March 2016 disgorgement. This is a champagne of a very simple style made extraordinarily well. Nothing sticks out here, but everything is very well integrated. Lemony acidity that's balanced with some sweet orchard fruits and a hint of chalky minerality. A nice bit of ripeness gives this a really rounded texture, but this is never heavy. (2910 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 2/21/2017 & rated 89 points: 2006, disgorged Oct 2009. Pale to mid straw. Initially quite rich on the nose before calming and showing a creamier Chardonnay profile. This has mellowed and matured over the past five years. *** (1975 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 2/3/2017: 2012 DG
great champagne - minerally, bitter grapefruit, hazlenut and all very much on the lean side. loved. (1694 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 10/18/2016 & rated 92 points: David White lead Champagne dinner (Ripple Restaurant in DC): Per David, this gets aged with cork for exchange of air which the producer believes to add richness. So far my COTN. Very subtle and refine nose displaying a hint of delicate red fruits, also baked apple, fresh apple sauce with a hint of cinnamon and white flowers. Medium concentration, subtle but polished palate, much finer mousse compare to the flight before and an elegant long finish. Really enjoyable. (2433 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 10/8/2016 & rated 92 points: Killer NV from Bereche. Elegance, intensity, clean, dry, pedigreed, but not boring! super long. Lovely. (1730 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 10/5/2016 & rated 93 points: Disgorged 2010, Base wine 2007. This is my favorite kind of bubbly. Rich fruit with nice density. Youthful, bright with the right amount of energy and tension. (1839 views)
Tasted by Diane (LI) on 9/11/2016: Baked apple and brioche, finishing with a touch of lemon. Crisp and nice. (1710 views)
Tasted by JOsgood on 4/2/2016: Delicious Champagne. Quite savory on the palate with a nice citrus element. (2241 views)
Tasted by acyso on 3/22/2016 & rated 95 points: Bérèche at The Bristol (Chicago, IL): 2010 base, 2 g/L dosage, January 2012 disgorgement (not sure on that, the label was quite illegible -- I imagine 2013 is actually more reasonable, but that misprinted last digit really looks like a 2 to me). This is what you get when you have super old vines. Definitely shows a bit of oak, but this is massive, dense, and powerful. Both yellow and white fruit, with a chalkiness and thick texture that is simply incredible. Very dense texture, but with acidic lift -- this packs a heavy punch but is nimble just the same. (3100 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 3/22/2016 & rated 95 points: A night of Bereche (The Bristol, Chicago IL): Nose: The nose is crystalline and precise with minerals, white fruits, white peaches, white florals, lemon zest, green apples, and a real salinity providing the base for the wine. There is excellent depth with this showing a demure expression that is quite inviting.

Taste: Medium bodied with high acidity. The acidity is crisp and youthful with the feel showing a precision and elegance to it loaded with mineral tones, saline, white florals, white peaches, white fruits, lemon zest, and some pears.

Overall: This was a wonderful Blanc de Blancs. It shows a lot of freshness with a lighter quality. I didn't get the disgorgement on this, but it didn't come off as mature. (1762 views)
Tasted by Rupert on 8/22/2015 & rated 91 points: Super, tangy, and moreish, way richer than the low dosage would suggest, bursting with life - way better than the other CT notes would lead one to expect (2605 views)
Tasted by Rob Hansult on 7/25/2015 & rated 91 points: (2011 base) Pretty white-flowers, green & yellow-citrus, & tart yellow-peach. Some nice stony/flinty Chardonnay/Cotes-des-Blancs-like character, along with earthy spice. Hint of old, slightly funky oak is (mostly) subsumed as fruit opens up. Nice balance, but not yet all of a piece. Med intensity at best. Drinks sweeter than expected for a 3 g/l Extra Brut. Overall quite nice. Nose more interesting than palate. (1006 views)
Tasted by yossarian.livez on 6/26/2015 & rated 89 points: 2011vintage. Apple and lemon with a touch of yeasty brioche. Slightly better bead with certainly better acid and tension than the standard reserve. I think this could do a bit better with time/air. Dosage: 3-grams per liter. (2517 views)

Champagne

Le Champagne (Le comité interprofessionnel du vin de Champagne) | Grandes Marques & Maisons de Champagne (Union des Maisons de Champagne)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
