 Tasted by levinml on 6/19/2013 & rated 90 points: Pleasantly surprised. Low expectations given scores of the community. But this is holding up nicely (10+ years in 56 degree cellar helps). Syrah is such easy drinking anyway, but all there. (535 views)

 Tasted by babnik on 6/5/2009 & rated 88 points: I pulled this wine from the cellar with hope that it hold its own with the spicy food at Tamarindo Antojeria Mexicana (Oakland - awesome restaurant). With the exception of the grilled habaneros, anaheim chiles, and jalapenos, the wine did serve the meal fairly well. Fortunately, the very hot (EtOH) nose of this wine doesn't overwhelm once you take a drink. Grilled teriyaki steak, dark berries, anise, a bit of a medicinal note, smooth and mouth coating. Drinking at its peak. Interesting, I'm going to give this wine a score not too different from previous tasters on CT but I liked it and their TN seem to indicate otherwise. Excellent wine. 88+. The "plus" is because I'd bet the wine would be even better with a rack of lamb. (1573 views)

 Tasted by Frank Murray III on 8/20/2006: I like Novy, in fact, quite a lot. It still ranks in the Top 3 in my cellar and I have another mixed case in the shipping queue. However, I would not want this specific wine again. This is Day 2 for this wine, open just over 24 hours. Here is what I like: it has big mouthfeel and nice fleshy weight, as well as intro of nice berry fruit. This allows it to drink well....initially. But, as the wine goes across the palate, there is a an earthy, mulchy type of flavor, perhaps even what I sometimes see called a 'balsamic' note. There is a also mixed with this balsamic, a hint of green. Not overpowering, but a hint of such. There is also some tartness on the finish and thus, I would consider this wine out of balance. Comparing this wine to newer vintages of the Napa bottling, this wine is not in that league with the others.

It's not usually my thing to post TNs on wines that don't float me. But, I am a fanatic for the Novy stuff and wanted to call it as I see it on this one. This is my last 2001, save a couple of mags, and so the 2002s are next, which I have been enjoying already this year. (1924 views)

 Tasted by lopezn on 4/30/2006 & rated 85 points: Had high hopes for this wine. I was expecting the "big syrah" nose/taste or at least a syrah with some finesse from this Novy staple. What I found, even after decanting for an hour, was a tight, green wine that left me with overall dissapointment. I have another bottle, maybe it needs more time in the bottle. (1596 views)

 Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 4/3/2003: Novy & Siduri Tasting: Cinnamon and floral add nuance to the nose with more caramel and alcohol. Bitter chocolate? Black cherry fruit mostly. Good concentration and length. 15.1% alcohol. As an aside, this was surprisingly good with a bith of strawberry cheesecake. (1086 views)
