Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.6 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 27 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 10/5/2017 & rated 91 points: Mike G. does Cleveland (Landerwood Pool & Tennis): I have had this a few times and every time I feel like there must be some Gewurtz in the blend. Probably not, but it shows that way. Light golden in color. The nose is clean with lychees and minerals. Some tropical fruit as well. Slightly viscous texture. Almost dry. The lychees continue to the palate along with some pineapple. A bit bitter on the finish. Drinking very well now and while it may or may not improve, no hurry on this at all. (2567 views)
Tasted by vinum bonum on 9/27/2015: L'attaque est assez tendre, mais le vin finit sec, avec une belle amertume qui étire la matière. Du volume, une très belle bouteille. Manque un poil de minéral pour moi, mais c'est excellent. (2616 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 2/23/2014 & rated 92 points: Mouton, Ducru, Angelus, Scharecrow, Corra, ZH: Very nice showing for this wine. The nose is very big and seems like there is some Gewurz in the wine (not saying there is). Lychees are quite prominent, also papaya, tangerines and a bit of minerality. The palate is thick, unctuous although almost bone dry. Lots of tropical fruit and minerals. not a lot of acidity. Long finish. This was a delightful wine though I might have preferred more acidity. Very fruit laden. Worked well to start the night and the first course of food. Pop and pour, I revisited at the end of the night and it was more complex and just as vibrant. (4506 views)
Tasted by ctjared on 9/23/2013: Amazing with sushi. Ice a must. (4242 views)
Tasted by David_T on 12/3/2012 & rated 92 points: Racy, vibrant, complex nose of minerals, citrus, apple, stone fruit, flowers, and a hint of petrol. The palate is just as intense and complex with minerals, white peach, rose petal, and a hint of caramel towards the end. Nice balance of strong acidity with a touch of sweetness; medium length finish. Drinking great now but should last for years. (4950 views)
Tasted by Obalde on 8/5/2012: pale gold; med+ intensity, developing, peach, apricot, tropical, oily, some bread notes, honeysuckle and honey, marmalade; off dry, med+ acid, med+ body, med alcohol, med+ intensity/finish, zingy, peach, orange marmalade, honey, wet stone, pink grapefruit skin, pineapple; very good- has some botrytized notes but acidity can clear through the sugar (3539 views)
Tasted by ttuominen on 4/2/2012 & rated 90 points: Completely agree with the note written by Pebben. Fantastic wine. (3446 views)
Tasted by Carstennoe on 3/3/2012 & rated 91 points: I have had this wine several times at various restaurants, mostly by the glass. It is always a pleaser, especially with seafood. Huge fruit nose. Full mouthfeel. slight to semi sweet palate with stone fruits (peaches) and citrus. A hint of minerality in the aftertaste. good acid to balance the sweetness. drinking perfectly right now. I love this wine (2495 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 2/19/2012 & rated 92 points: Clerico, Marcassin, Einaudi, ZH, Cerbaiona +: Most of the crowd pegged this as their WOTN. While I would not go that far, this was a really good bottle. The nose is pretty clean with minerals, limes and some seltzer. Great texture. Complex and mature but just a hint of diesel. Delicious wine that worked as a cocktail or with some cheese and crackers. (2986 views)
Tasted by Pebben on 12/21/2011 & rated 90 points: Tasted immediately after opening. Medium golden colour. Fragrant nose; ripe yellow apples, sweet peaches and tropical fruit. There’s also a pronounced saline minerality and a touch of white flowers, honey and botrytis in the mix. On the palate; round and smooth with a little bit of sweetness. Medium acidity. Good concentration and length. Very enjoyable – made me anxious to pop a bottle of Clos St. Urbain, but I’ll be patient. (2049 views)
Tasted by Sunny10 on 12/17/2011 & rated 80 points: Weak on nose, citrus and honey. Nice balance of acidity and sweet. (1843 views)
Tasted by JJKinch on 7/19/2011 & rated 89 points: Taste - Lemon/ citrus - slight grapefruit, honeysuckle, floral elements. Nice acidity. Really enjoyable. (2038 views)
Tasted by DanR on 6/9/2011 & rated 89 points: Rich, ripe, and round; with a slightly weighty, waxy feel to the lemony peach, quince, and honeysuckle flavors, that finish with a hint of RS. While certainly pleasurable, technically sound, and correct, there is an international quality to this wine that compromises the interest factor somewhat, for this taster. (2147 views)
Tasted by Goldstone on 5/26/2011 & rated 87 points: Patrick Gauthier Visiting 2-Star Michelin Chef & Watsons Wine Dinner (Oyster & Wine Bar, Sheraton Hotel, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong): Light greenish-silvery gold colour. Nose is very perfumed floral notes with predominant honeysuckle backed by toasted oak but there is a bit too much alcohol and also a rather flat note in the middle. Palate is light, poised and very pleasant after an initially over-sweet apricot-dominated opening but there was also a slightly nettle-ish dry flat note mid-palate. Otherwise very good and super QPR. Paired very well with seared foie gras......good acidic cut. (2793 views)
Tasted by Fur in the glass on 5/17/2011: nice nose of ripe grapefruit (2250 views)
Tasted by mdefreitas on 5/7/2011 & rated 90 points: Much drier and focused than the Pinot Gris from the same vintage/vineyard. Lemons, cirtus skin, grapefruit and chalky minerals. I quite enjoy the gravely texture of this wine, but the finish seems slightly diluted. (2536 views)
Tasted by Weston3220 on 6/15/2010 & rated 90 points: Tasting of Zind-Humbrecht w/ Olivier Via Video Conference (Yaletown, Liquid Arts Portfolio Offices): C: Med Golden, Firzzante
A: Clean, Med Intensity, Interesting Nose of Lime/Citrus, A Hightone almost Ester coming through, little plastic more so then petrol, and Floral
T: ever so slightly off Dry, Med Acid, Med Alc, Med Body, med intensity, long finish
Good Fruit, Pink Grapefruit, Round/Rich feel in the mouth

Conclusion, I like the Palate [91pts] more then the nose [87pts]. But a good drink for sure (3219 views)
Tasted by Papies on 6/3/2010 & rated 88 points: The wines of Zind-Humbrecht 2007 -1989, with Richard Brazier (Handford Wines, London): Handford's "The wines of Zind-Humbrecht 2007 -1989" with Richard Brazier, London June 3rd 2010

2007 was a good vintage for the appellation. Light yellow, pale. Classic Riesling (with the exception of the nose which lacked the petrolly element) crisp, good acidity and fruit. Rich and to some in the room almost confectionary. Tried it side by side with the 2006 and 2007 was better (3060 views)

Zind-Humbrecht

Producer website
Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is one of the stars of the Alsace, in the northeastern corner of France. Fought over for decades by Germany and France, the region, according to Robert M. Parker Jr., “is perhaps the most underrated and underutilized source of great white wines in the world.” Zind-Humbrecht was created in 1959 by Leonard Humbrecht and Genevieve Zind. Their son Olivier is now instrumental in running the 99-acre estate, which the family still owns. Like many Alsatian producers, Zind-Humbrecht makes white wines in varying degrees of sweetness, from dessert whites to very dry wines. The vineyards are planted to 30% Riesling, 30% Gewurztraminer, 29% Pinot Gris, and smaller amounts of Pinot Noir, Muscat, Chardonnay, Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc. Up to 18,000 cases are produced annually. Many are Grand Crus and single vineyard bottlings.
