Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 2 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by wineaboutit on 8/30/2011 & rated 90 points: Vinturi'd into a decanter, and let sit for about 10 minutes...the natives were getting restless, so poured into Reidel Oregon pinot stems, and got to it. Nose of some cherry and earth...light and subdued aromas. Light bodied, w/flavors of black cherry standing out. Not what I was expecting, as '06 was a warm vintage, and the Pfeiffer vineyard is in Junction City, which typically gets warm...I was thinking more of a big pinot, richer and dense. Not the case at all, a balanced effort, that opened up after an hour or so, and was true to the varietal, totally enjoyable. (630 views)
Tasted by dld on 2/7/2010: Tasted at the winery and also drank a bottle with dinner at the winery. Terrific wine, drinking very well now. Very well balanced fruit and earthiness. Fragrant nose. Went perfectly with the halibut with roasted fennel and leeks in an orange sauce and yet also stood up to the duck cassolet. (668 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, Austria, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.
