Tasted by Tarstmartin on 9/19/2011 & rated 90 points: Great merlot for everyday. Not a major hit but wonderful value for the price. SXM Wine Club (2668 views)
Tasted by Jatstafford on 6/26/2011 & rated 89 points: This was a nice bottle. I thought I missed the window but we really enjoyed it with a good steak dinner. Defiantly on it's last legs. (2598 views)
Tasted by Tarstmartin on 2/8/2011 & rated 88 points: What a lovely merlot for under $15. An excellent table wine to compliment mild beef and pork dishes. Not a complex merlot but worth a taste. (2512 views)
Tasted by wineywhites on 9/7/2010 & rated 86 points: Basic merlot. Not bad, not interesting (2681 views)
Tasted by alandf on 4/1/2010 & rated 86 points: okay (1288 views)
Tasted by CabIsKing on 1/16/2010 & rated 86 points: Not great but average merlot. Nose full of chocolate and hints of blueberry. In the mouth it was a bit thin and tobacco ruled. For the price it was nice. (1069 views)
Tasted by RajivAyyangar on 9/16/2009 & rated 55 points: R&R Marketing 2009 Gala (Atlantic City, NJ): Something is very off in this nose. Can't tell what. (3348 views)
Tasted by ikkaariainen on 3/19/2009 & rated 84 points: Quite a reasonable entry level surprisingly complex CA merlot enjoyed earlier today at the monthly wine tasting at the Hickory Wine Shoppe in Hickory NC with Kim and good CT wine buddy neighborbill. Bolder then expected, medium bodied, lingering aftertaste, well structured with enough tannins for some cellaring. Nose of dark fruit, red cherry and mocha with primary flavors of some oak, black pepper, dark fruit and blackberry. Do recommend this wine, at this price point (around $ 15.00 / bottle) a reasonable QPR and I am not even a particular merlot fan. (1167 views)

Merlot

Merlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
