Tasted by jkoenen on 9/26/2015 & rated 91 points: 97 Napa-retrospective (Restaurant Bottles, Sas van Gent): Flinty fireworks, hint of oxidation, popcorn, butter, vanilla. Very powerful and looking for balance at this moment. Maybe still young?? (2673 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 9/26/2015 & rated 92 points: USA 1997 (By JK @ Bottles): Smoke, butterscotch and yellow fruits in the bouquet. On the palate full bodied, yellow fruits, good vanilla from the oak, good acidity and some bitterness in the finish. Beautiful and rich wine. (2111 views)
Tasted by WinoRick on 1/4/2011 & rated 94 points: Deep golden color with a slight oxidized but penetrating nose. The oxidiztion showed in the mouth but was balanced with acidity and fruit that was delicious. Served with New Year's Eve lobster and matched beautifully. (2815 views)
Tasted by jsebiri on 8/9/2009 & rated 92 points: is there a description called " Mature Fresh " ?!?

Tasted by Biglama on 11/12/2006 & rated 89 points: Diep geel. Heel rijke neus met mooie rijpe gele vruchten, botertje en mooi hout. Smaak is krachtig maar niet te. Goede eetwijn (1998 views)
Tasted by Biglama on 6/4/2006 & rated 91 points: Diepe gele kleur.
Tasted by Renee & Robert on 6/21/2005 & rated 90 points: Found this while doing an inventory to get started with Cellartracker- had kind of forgotten I had it and had intended to drink sooner. Luckily, no harm done! Light golden color, not as dark as I'd expected, maybe the color of an apple juice. On the nose, a mix of white fruits, pear, white peach, maybe, with light buttery/smokey hint in unobrusively in the background. Not over oaked for my tastes. On the palate, the smokey, buttery flavors are a bit stronger than on the nose, but the intensity of the fruit flavors outpace those from the oak/malo treatment. If I had another, I'd drink it soon, but given that this is the entry level bottle, to be this good at 8 years is nice. Not in imminent danger of decline, but why wait? (1613 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
