Tasted by Jonahpla on 9/21/2023 & rated 92 points: Drinking so well right now (426 views)
Tasted by jriggleman on 6/24/2022 & rated 90 points: Jordan Staal gift basket (884 views)
Tasted by 238k2 on 8/19/2021 & rated 86 points: Bit aged and past its prime (1451 views)
Tasted by Joelene on 4/21/2021 & rated 94 points: Old school almost Bordeaux type nose of leather and earth sour cherry lamb meat and old wood. Nice still fresh acidic mouthfeel, more red fruit, big green bell pepper thing, some salty saline note, a little short on the finish.
This is a pretty wine, medium bodied, not a lot of fruit but lots of personality and the terroir really shines though. Definitely old world style. (1680 views)
Tasted by johncrose1 on 11/26/2020: Very good (1902 views)
Tasted by BeavisKnowsWine on 4/30/2020 & rated 97 points: Drank this on Friday April 24th. Cedar, tobacco, pepper. Still has some dark cherry notes as well. Absolutely fantastic. The Jordan wines truly are ones to age and just get better with time. This wine still has some time left but drinking fantastic right now. Great finish! (2240 views)
Tasted by Kerry Easthope on 12/25/2019 & rated 92 points: Really nice wine, (2039 views)
Tasted by StevenM on 7/20/2019 & rated 89 points: A little disappointed, perhaps by my over-expectations. It is nice and highly structured, but not as big as prior -- passing its peak now. Neither the complexity or the finish was what I remembered of this vintage a couple years ago. It has lost tannins, acid, and fruit. Still a fine wine, was once a 92, is now maybe an 89 -- of course, that is probably tainted by my expectations for something greater. The nose of dried fruits and a hint of minerals (gravel) is still wonderful. Drink now and enjoy! (1853 views)
Tasted by DravlaH on 2/8/2019 & rated 91 points: Notes of vanilla and coves and rasberries right away. Medium bodied, garnet coloring. Pretty dry.

Drinks great. (2216 views)
Tasted by Lisathinnes on 12/18/2018: Still good (2215 views)
Tasted by EtzlerSD on 11/14/2018 & rated 91 points: It was delicious. Full. Not too sweet. (1876 views)
Tasted by comlaw on 8/6/2018 & rated 91 points: Decanted for 30 minutes. Nice blend of fruit, wood and soft tannins. Drink now as it is nearing the end of its drinking window. (2040 views)
Tasted by Heynetty on 7/16/2018 & rated 89 points: Wine Dojo - Week 18 - Off 'Bord'way (Elissa's Place): Tasted Blind

A: Medium ruby with garnet highlights. High viscosity.
N: Cherry, raspberry, bell pepper, everyone got GRAPHITE except me....wasnt so obvious, chocolate, coffee, baking spice, clove, earth. Developing.
P: Dry, medium (+) acidity, medium (+) tannin, medium (+) intensity, body, finish, alcohol (13.5%).
C:

GUESSES:
The earth led me to Old World. The restrained alcohol made me think moderate climate and the 'graphite' everyone was talking about led me to Cab Franc.

MISTAKES:
Not enough graphite here to be a CF heavy wine. Should have trusted my own notes there but not obviously Cab Sav either. The earthiness was very apparent. I don't think that this was the most typical example of a California Cab. Alexander Valley is just North of Healdsburg in Sonoma County and can clearly make some restrained stuff. Perhaps age has calmed the typical bracing tannins and wild fruit. Perhaps, i just like older Cali Cab vintages. There's a shocker! (2138 views)
Tasted by ashikoh on 2/22/2018 & rated 91 points: Deep ruby. Aromas of black cherries with earth tones, menthol, and pencil shavings. Dense red and black fruit on the palate with finely textured tannins, nice balancing acidity, and juicy persistence. Reminiscent of a Bordeaux. (1933 views)
Tasted by TheRhoneranger on 9/3/2017 & rated 90 points: This bottle was much better than the last. After a 90 minute decant the berry and spice flavors began to emerge. (2641 views)
Tasted by jlhkiss on 8/31/2017 & rated 90 points: Much more closed than a few years ago - seems to be in a sleeper window. Still tightly wound with a hard acidic frame and thick tannins (this is NOT past its prime, contrary to previous reviews). Blackberry, blackcurrant, caramel, wild herbs, and black cherries flow into a thick finish. Not completely balanced so not sure this improve a lot, but it should be more accessible 2018-2025. Technical score: 89: Enjoyment score: 91. (2514 views)
Tasted by hoops92 on 7/30/2017 & rated 88 points: Past its prime - still a good wine, but likely not what it was. (2657 views)
Tasted by JSolo on 3/4/2017 & rated 80 points: Past its time. (3574 views)
Tasted by TheRhoneranger on 1/13/2017 & rated 87 points: Very dull. Perhaps we waited too long. No fruit at all. (3998 views)
Tasted by Fftjr on 1/3/2017: Drank well. Smooth tannin plenty of fruit. (3156 views)
Tasted by cr8it on 12/8/2016 & rated 87 points: A bit disappointed by this wine. Perhaps I cellared it past its peak. I usually enjoy Jordan's, but this one lacked the character and depth that some in the past offered. I have been drinking their wine since their first vintage in 1976, and this is probably one of the weakest vintages I have tasted. I poured a glass using Coravin, and it seemed to open a bit over time. Perhaps I will decant the rest of the bottle. Nose of dried fruits and cherries and wet rock. Very little fruit on the front and not much of a finish. Lacked tannins and long flavor of a good Cabernet. (3389 views)
Tasted by WineGuyFL on 10/16/2016 & rated 90 points: A lot of people at a club I belong to buy this wine (the label, not necessarily the vintage) like it is Chateau Margaux 1989. I bought a few bottles to see if I was missing something. I am not. It is not bad, but I can easily find labels just as good for $30 per bottle and with a little work, can find some as good in the $20 range. I know I am on a different page that a lot of people on this one, but it is what it is. (3382 views)
Tasted by rhaddock on 10/1/2016 & rated 91 points: We drank this at the perfect time, not sure it would have aged much longer. This was delicious! Very soft tannins. Hints of pepper and tobacco. (2575 views)
Tasted by WineGuyFL on 9/25/2016 & rated 91 points: Good wine; well made. However, not particularly complex and a so-so value given the price. (1942 views)
Tasted by SCosgrove on 8/2/2016 & rated 90 points: Great hit at the dinner party. (2550 views)

2005 Jordan Vineyard & Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley

Winemaker video discusses 2005 Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
