Community Tasting Notes (average 91.8 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 267 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Whine-oh on 5/29/2022 & rated 91 points: pnp. still bright and fresh with dark cherries, currants, plums and an earthy
component. Tannins still present on the back end. paired well with steak and grilled veggies tonight. (914 views)
Tasted by Ridgerunner on 4/6/2022 & rated 93 points: Just a lovely Cabernet really hitting on all cylinders (990 views)
Tasted by markcic on 12/13/2021 & rated 91 points: Drinking nicely at 14 years of age. Opened and slow ox'd for two hours. Dark fruit on the nose. The palate was dark berries, cherry, currant, tobacco and coffee leading to a moderately long finish. (1421 views)
Tasted by Ridgerunner on 3/17/2021 & rated 92 points: ?Felt perhaps this might still require more time (1808 views)
Tasted by Old Course 72 on 4/25/2020 & rated 93 points: Still dark color, appearance not young or old, great nose of flower perfume, racy tannins supporting a rail of fruit. Balanced toward the leaner side but, had the right amount of deep berry flavor. Long finish, it just danced from beginning to end. Been hitting the cellar hard during the pandemic and this 2007 surprised as one of the very best, favorite so far. (2250 views)
Tasted by bablues on 1/10/2020 & rated 93 points: It's been nine years almost to the day since I last had this. The nose is gorgeous giving off dark berries and a strong forest floor component. Little bit of earth but not as dirty as when previously tasted in 2011. The palate is not as dense and is a little more subdued. Black fruit is shining through with some dark chocolate. Strong finish although tannins seem to be fading. Still has a few years at it's peak (1953 views)
Tasted by SpoochMan on 12/26/2018 & rated 93 points: Drank with prime rig on Xmas day. This was really nice and I think totally in its prime. Still good fruit and some nice herbal notes. Very smooth and satisfying. Well stored bottles should hold a few more years but this is drinking great now and no reason to wait. Wish I had a couple more. Was a great buy at $40 (2474 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 11/17/2018 & rated 93 points: Very dark red color, very subtle 3mm margin. PNP, split bottle over 3 hours. This is in a very good place, mature, still fresh and well balanced. The nose offers pretty fruits of cassis and red cherry, baking spice, tobacco and graphite. As this opens, about an hour in, a floral perfume emerges filled with a mix of violets and a mix of bright fruits that is just enticing. The palate is medium to medium full bodied, offering a purity to the cassis and cherry fruits that is notable, tobacco later gives way more to graphite, spice, pleasant cedar notes, and hints of dark cacao on the finish. Very good, even handed and graceful. I think is built such that it can give another 10 years, but it is very rewarding now. (2710 views)
Tasted by ecola on 11/4/2018 & rated 91 points: Red berry fruit with the earthy secondary flavors starting to set in. A bit off balance at first pop n pour with the acidity being too harsh. Mellows with air and smooths out. Long finish. Drink now. (2051 views)
Tasted by Moorsie on 9/4/2017 & rated 92 points: I refrigerated for approx. 30 mins as we took this to an outdoor concert. Great nose, fruit forward, mid, and back...it is drinking beautifully. Delicious. (3782 views)
Tasted by SpoochMan on 8/1/2017 & rated 92 points: Largely consistent with previous notes. This is a very nice cab blend that is drinking well now. The pieces are all fitting together nicely and there is enough acidity to keep it fresh and food friendly. It's not mind blowing or anything, but very solid. (3992 views)
Tasted by Wine Lover 1964 on 12/17/2016 & rated 91 points: decanted and drank 2007 Trilogy along with 2007 Spring Valley Frederick. No sediment on either. 2 hours in- Frederick still showing some youth with tannin's, acidity and fruit still prominent. This one has years left. Trilogy much more mature with very soft tannin's, virtually no acidity and some nice oak showing (maybe a bit too much oak for some). Both excellent with grilled filet Mignon. Day #2- neither dropped of nor improved. Frederick still best with food and running a little hot from alcohol/acidity but lip-smacking. I'd score Trilogy 91 and Frederick 92, but you could reverse these scores depending on preference to oak on your wines. (5078 views)
Tasted by JCSV on 7/5/2016 & rated 92 points: Lots of red fruit well crafted Napa red blend (6322 views)
Tasted by SpoochMan on 6/13/2016 & rated 94 points: K and C took this bottle out to dinner after my Coravin taste the previous night. They were very enthusiastic about it, especially after it took on a bit of air. (6355 views)
Tasted by SpoochMan on 6/12/2016 & rated 94 points: Coravin taste. Wow, this is drinking beautifully. Nice cab fruit but balanced beautifully with herbal notes and adequate acidity. Really outstanding and drinking well. Elegant. This was a great buy at $40. Wish I had more than 3. Liked this slightly better than the '09 Beringer Knights reserve and the '08 ACVV Estate, substantially better than the '08 Hall, and way better than the '08 Lewis cab. (4567 views)
Tasted by aquaman on 1/23/2016 & rated 92 points: Open this next to 1992 caymus special selected..
Cork perfect..decanted 2h.. Drank within 6h. It held its own. When side by side. But then caymus show to self more. But very good n taste wine. (5299 views)
Tasted by Thirsty1 on 1/22/2016: Bingo. It's drinking time. It's all come together. Dark purple with notes of brick. Lots of mature cassis, glove leather and darker berry fruit. Compact mid pallet with a silky texture and age-appropriate tannin. Great finish as well. This bottle has gotten better with time and can show what it had been hiding all along. (3797 views)
Tasted by Bob1130 on 12/20/2015 & rated 92 points: Has aged well silky and tasty nice hints of cherry (2879 views)
Tasted by signotim on 11/6/2015 & rated 93 points: This is fantastic. Blk cherry liqueur and red currant soar on the nose. Palate is super concentrated and the red fruit is enhanced with notes of licorice and menthol. The finish lingers nicely... wow, this is a great wine which will provide pleasure for many years. (2941 views)
Tasted by EMTAME on 9/14/2015 & rated 89 points: Like my last bottle, this one shows a touch of funk that detracts a little from an otherwise very tasty wine. The oak, which was previously a bit too prominent, is now well integratred. (3320 views)
Tasted by lovemycab on 6/26/2015 & rated 92 points: This was my last bottle of this. Too bad it's drinking quite nicely now. Tobacco, cedar, and hints of cherry. Enjoy and drink up (2665 views)
Tasted by JS199 on 6/3/2015 & rated 93 points: The time is now. Waiting is hard, but it does pay off. Solid. Right bank Cali blend that has come together. (2769 views)
Tasted by kcsteve on 5/9/2015 & rated 92 points: Blackberry, cedar, tobacco, herb. Finish of cherry and tobacco. Great wine drinking so well right now. (2584 views)
Tasted by lovemycab on 4/3/2015 & rated 91 points: drinking well right now. Decanted for 1 hour. Won't get any better as its prime now. (2594 views)
Tasted by Donjcorleone on 4/3/2015 & rated 91 points: A ripe blackberry, licorice, cedar and tobacco driven nose leads way to a black cherry fruited palate along with cedar and herbs that tastes more Right bank like than most anything from Napa. (2349 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
