Community Tasting Notes (average 88 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 369 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Søholm on 6/26/2023: Very Nice smooth wine - well done - recommendable - would buy again (350 views)
Tasted by Rafal on 3/21/2022 & rated 89 points: Very nice, interesting, well made. Wish a little less alcohol but that comes with this territory. Tannins still very present. Good acidity, touch of roundness/sweetness, lemon-like bitterness. Nose developed, still much fruit but also secondary characteristics. Big wine, goes well with bigger food: had it with a veggie ragu of beans and lentils. (1221 views)
Tasted by VinVet on 10/9/2021 & rated 92 points: Soft dark berry and wet earth nose. Plum and dark berry fruit, soft tannins and modest acidity well integrated and lengthy finish. (1546 views)
Tasted by VinVet on 9/11/2021 flawed bottle: Almost black in the glass. Dark berry nose with plum and some notes of wood. Well integrated dark berries, acidity and modest tannins. Lengthy smooth finish. (1592 views)
Tasted by bradfriedlander on 8/9/2021 & rated 92 points: Drinking very well. Needs about an hour to open. The Petit Verdot punches through with a delicious note. Paired well with grilled salmon and a spicy Asian style noodle dish. (1657 views)
Tasted by bradfriedlander on 4/6/2021 & rated 92 points: Spicy like fresh ground pepper Red raspberry. Eucalyptus nose. Subdued, juicy fruit. Medium mouth feel. Sustained finish. Very good food wine. Surprisingly excellent for its price and age. Only needs about an hour to open. Bottle barely lasted through dinner. (1630 views)
Tasted by Alemany on 11/30/2020 & rated 90 points: Gets better with age. Maybe 91? (1386 views)
Tasted by Burgundywine on 1/2/2020: Rich fruit, a bit unidimensional, as you would expect (1508 views)
Tasted by YoRi on 2/26/2017 & rated 89 points: La note tient compte du prix
(4386 views)
Tasted by tendring on 1/23/2017 & rated 88 points: Wine Education Service - Argentina (LSE): Youthful purple, dense.
Gentle fruity nose.
Fruity, well integrated, balanced, very long. (4083 views)
Tasted by johnrm on 8/11/2016 & rated 91 points: Deep colour. Recessed nose soon after decanting but it opened with time and showed good fruit and spice. The fruit on the palate seemed very sweet at first with dusty tannins but the wine settled and revealed spice and mainly damson, plum and black cherry fruit. Good length and balance. It definitely needs time to settle - it was a much better wine after a couple of hours.
After 24h, the spice was more subtle and the wine was softer and full of sweet, rich dark fruits with damson and cherry. Good structure and complexity. Very long. Typical Malbec character but difficult to disentangle the minor grapes (not a criticism). Excellent wine with life ahead of it (Clos usually develops over at least a decade IMO). (5274 views)
Tasted by P. Horst on 4/15/2016 & rated 91 points: Deep dark purple, dark ruby on the edges, giving away the development of the wine. Prune, cherry, dark forrest fruit, earthiness, vanilla, baking spices on the nose. Dark cherry and dark red fruits on the palate, surprising but pleasant bit of sweetness, vanilla chocolately notes, bit of underbush or garrigue, smooth tannins. Very pleasant indeed! This wine is at the top of its game now, won't improve anymore. (5963 views)
Tasted by Zorba on 12/26/2015 & rated 88 points: This wine developed a lot over the past 3 years! Very smooth tannins, sweet oak completely integrated, mostly blackberry fruit, and kind of balanced. Very ready to drink and I don't think this will improve. (6298 views)
Tasted by Redrunners on 12/11/2015 & rated 88 points: Solid malbec cab blend.

Solid inexpensive drinker for watching the game with friends (4538 views)
Tasted by brunomr on 9/14/2015 & rated 87 points: Good timing for it! I guess 2015 is its last year. Already very soft but still dark fruity on the nose. Good wine! (4976 views)
Tasted by sabrage on 11/25/2014 & rated 85 points: PnP. Purple color. Slow legs. Black cherry, blood, toast and light vegetal nose. Blackberry, blood, unripe cherry and mineral palate. OK balance. Medium leather texture. Lingering finish. 14.6% ABV. (5676 views)
Tasted by Jwd12 on 10/9/2014 & rated 90 points: Deep dark purple nose is fruity woody and sweet. Tasted red fruit, oak, leather, earthy flavor and spice. This is 56% Malbec 21% merlot 10% can save 11% Syrah and2% petite verlot. Nice wish I had bought s case (5291 views)
Tasted by flussier on 7/24/2014 & rated 89 points: Robe de couleur: Bourgogne foncé, Bouquet présent, Bouquet: Reglisse rouge, cerise, sous-bois, épice, chocolat, violette; Très corsé; Arômes en bouche: boisé, cerise, sous-bois, épice, 3 ans cellier, decanter 1h, bon accords, nez complexe (3553 views)
Tasted by leonardo_de_araujo on 4/6/2014 & rated 89 points: Super good. Still not in decline. Glad cause I have a few more (6536 views)
Tasted by guy12 on 2/15/2014 & rated 85 points: Purple colour with nose of plums & spice. Big in the mouth with spice again, medium finish with a fair bit of tannin. Drunk over 3 days & didn't budge. Good old/new world mix (6382 views)
Tasted by hdn on 2/7/2014 & rated 89 points: Donkere kleur. Typische malbec-geur en smaak, wel zacht en rond.
Zeker niet zwaar. Lekker (5887 views)
Tasted by Blcmdpa@gmail.com on 1/23/2014 & rated 89 points: Dark, chewey, spice, plum... not quite unified but lingering finish (5192 views)
Tasted by Umay Ceviker on 12/8/2013 & rated 90 points: Deep, inky black hinting at purple at the rim. Dusty upfront with opulent violet and plum notes alongside milk chocolate all accenting the black fruit frame. Apparently, very new world. Tarry notes and intense black fruit define the supple mouthfeel with fine grained tannins and rather slender structure caressing the palate. (5187 views)
Tasted by Champagneinhand on 11/28/2013 & rated 92 points: This was a phenom wine. great Bdx notes of earth, dark berries and red fruit. Spices and mocha and cocoa. Good acid/tannin combo with a medium finish. a tremendous qpr, in as much this was the last of 6 bottles. Really sad I didn't have a case as this seemed to get better with time. Restores my confidence in Michel Rolland. Hopefully I will see some of his Pessac and Fronsac projects pull out of the pack in future years as well. (4361 views)
Tasted by bjschmitt on 11/16/2013 & rated 86 points: With strip steak and scalloped potatoes.
Dark crimson, not opaque, but true color to the edge.
Strawberry/cherry on the nose.
Dry, medium weight. Quaffable wine.
A good wine. With the rating scales bouncing around now it's hard to say its a good wine - above average, not flawed, a worthy accompaniment to a meal. (3815 views)

Argentina

Wines of Argentina

Argentina has been making wine since the 1500s, tracing its wine heritage back to Spain, France and, perhaps surprisingly, Italy. Italian immigration is second only to Spanish in Argentine culture, and the flavors of Italy show up strongly in the nation’s wine, food and cultural tradition. Historically, Argentina has kept much of its wine consumption at home, drinking most of the wine it makes. But we are now seeing more very serious Argentine wines north of the border, and Malbec is leading the movement. The wine-making region in Argentina ranges between the 22° and 42° South latitude. It spreads at the foothills of the Andean mountain range along over 2,400 km; from the province of Salta to the province of Río Negro, with a variety of climates and soils that makes each region a unique land. In general terms, the areas dedicated to vine cultivation are dry and arid with a low level of rain and humidity, determining factor as regards grape health. Abundant sunny days and thermal amplitude favor a good maturity and concentration of aroma and color in the grain. Soils are deep, permeable and poor in organic matter, decisive qualities at the time of obtaining good wine. Due to the low rain regime, irrigation is necessary. Water comes from the Andean range thaw, descending in the shape of rivers to become channels or ditches. Undoubtedly, the combination of these factors turns Argentina into a veritable oasis for the highest quality wine-making. Nevertheless, there is still a long way to go. Wine-making in Argentina, at the level that it achieves today, has a young history that goes back to a little more than 10 years ago. Technological progress, investment and some farsighted businessmen enabled a determining transformation. The province of Mendoza is the most traditional area in the viticultural industry, and is diverse enough to be divided into zones, according to their significantly different weather, height and soil characteristics. These include the Northern Zone, which is suitable for fruity whites and young reds, at a height from 600 to 700m; the Eastern Zone, with a height ranging from 600 to 700m, and the most productive zone in the province; the Uco Valley, a zone of colder weather and higher altitudes (between 800 and 1,400m over sea level); San Rafael, with heights ranging from 450 to 800m; and the High Zone of the Mendoza River, with heights ranging from 800 to 1,100m over sea level and various microclimates, this is the zone where almost all noble varieties have easily become adapted. It is a region that is remarkably well-suited to vine culture, protected from the Pacific’s cooling influence by the Andes and enjoying a long summer of cool nights and warm days, with a dry summer climate but plenty of water available from the region’s rivers. Malbec in particular is outstanding from this area, and it has clearly emerged as the star, the darling of both consumers and critics.
