Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.3 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 18 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on 3/20/2024 & rated 91 points: Popped and poured, and it was gone in less than 30 minutes. Tasty and rich. (103 views)
Tasted by fitzi on 3/25/2022: This bottle tasted worlds better than the one I opened less that a year ago - good acidity, interesting edginess, engaging textural and aromatic qualities. From memory, no detailed notes, but I would say this is much more in line with what I'd expect from a botte with Corton on its label (and no Aloxe). Last botte for me. (396 views)
Tasted by fitzi on 8/9/2021: Interesting but not exciting - nor especially noteworthy. Not flawed, not bad, but not terribly good and not distinctive in any special way. In the white Burgundy department, I'd just as soon drink a good Montee de Tonnerre. (495 views)
Tasted by acidqueen on 4/20/2020 & rated 91 points: Gotten better since 2018. Light yellow, still very reserved. Flavors of white flowers and lime with a light lanolin body. Almost has tannins on the finish. Needs decanting and should be served at cellar temperature to show its best. No hurry. Not a big broad wine, but cool and restrained. Very good. (769 views)
Tasted by acidqueen on 10/7/2018 & rated 90 points: Still in same place as my note a year ago. Light yellow. Wax, white flowers, a bit of peach but no secondary development at this point. Crisp, citrus and can clearly get better but needs several years at least. Good but give it time. I should have waited but some other notes gave me some concern. No need to worry. This will get better with a couple years. (1048 views)
Tasted by acyso on 2/12/2018 & rated 90 points: Dinner at Osteria Langhe (Chicago, IL): I liked this more than the last bottle I had (in fact, I didn't even remember that I had had this before). Certainly a fatter and rounder chardonnay, this is a large-scaled wine, but it doesn't have the sort of monumental acidity or minerality that I've come to love in white Burgundy. The fruit is a little peachy and ripe, and there's a hint of sweetness as well. (1996 views)
Tasted by Vinomane on 9/18/2017: Young, pale, inoffensive; good potential here as fine balance can be sensed. Give it 5 years. (92)? (1233 views)
Tasted by acidqueen on 5/6/2017 & rated 90 points: More refined than the last bottle 2 years ago. Snappy acids need time to settle down so I am going to hold off for a few more years on my last bottles. Paraffin, honeysuckle, floral, lemon. Really needs more time and although good now it will get better. (1303 views)
Tasted by acyso on 5/14/2016 & rated 85 points: HDH auction tasting at Tru; 5/13/2016-5/14/2016 (Chicago, IL): This is that waxy style of white Burgundy that I really don't like. A bit of stone fruit on the nose, but not much reduction at all -- there's almost a bit of white cherry on the nose too. The palate is quite ripe and waxy, and while there's a lot of acidity to be sure, it's not quite as dense and powerful as I'd expect from a grand cru. (2487 views)
Tasted by NineteenEightyTwo on 9/1/2014 & rated 88 points: Pale gold color. The nose on this is remarkable, in that it manages to be dense but airy simultaneously. Aromas of fresh tennis balls, fried fish, and dragon fruit, with some green floral notes and a pervasive but subtle smell of stone. The palate by comparison is light bodied and simplistic, showing mostly floral flavors. This has less of 2007's hallmark abundant acidity than I'd expect from a Grand Cru. I am afraid that Remington Norman's assertion that Corton Blanc seldom achieves better than Premier Cru quality is correct in this case. I'll try to finish my remaining bottles within three years, as this doesn't have the backbone to support the type of decade-plus maturation you'd expect from first class white Burgundy. (2038 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
