DELICATE, ELEGANT, MATURE. PAIRED WITH 2012 YOUNGER SISTER AND ONE COULD CLEARLY TASTE THAT THEY WERE FROM THE SAME VINEYARD. (1600 views) | | Tasted by veniceslug1 on 12/1/2013 & rated 89 points: Dried out and past it. (1804 views) | | Tasted by rcurlee on 11/7/2013 & rated 89 points: Still very drinkable and plenty of life left in it. Not over the hill at all. A great example of an ageable Zinfandel. (1834 views) | | Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 8/7/2009 & rated 91 points: Dark raspberry red color with pale meniscus; fig, berry, currant and plum nose and palate, with a green note; medium finish (2931 views) | | Tasted by karpos on 12/25/2007 & rated 89 points: Still doing well. Slightly acidic to start, a bit pruny and closed, but it warmed up and mellowed out nicely during the afternoon. Definitely needed some breathing to reach its best. At the end it had sweet fruit and spice. Very nice. (3417 views) | | Tasted by Bob & Sue Atlanta on 9/11/2006 & rated 89 points: Holding on nicely (3918 views) | | Tasted by AndrewSGHall on 5/1/2006: Started off with a volatile nose. Lots of sediment in the bottle. Upfront acids, thin, raw blackberry and a silty texture. A bit rough. Nice fruit underneath. Cola notes. Opened up very prettily with fuller body and richer fruits. Definite dustiness. Soft, but bright with a nice definition. Grew more enjoyable over time and picked up weight and undertones of pollen, brick and more berry. Really nice. Perhaps a Monte Bello signature with the dustiness? (2536 views) | | Tasted by veniceslug1 on 5/8/2005 & rated 89 points: A nice body. Spicy cin. and cedar. With still good black fruit. The other Ridge winery facilities are at Lytton Springs in the Dry Creek Valley AVA of Sonoma County.Zinfandel ZAP: Zinfandel Advocates & Producers | Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wikipedia-ZinfandelUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Santa Cruz Mountains Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Association | Wikipedia
Once referred to by wine writers as the Chaine d'Or -- or "golden chain" -- the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA sits above Silicon Valley, running along the craggy range next to the Pacific on some of the prettiest parts of Northern California. The area supports more than 75 wineries, despite being limited by geography and high land prices.
In 1981 the Santa Cruz Mountains Viticultural Appellation became federally recognized, one of the first American viticultural areas to be defined by geophysical and climatic factors. The appellation encompasses the Santa Cruz Mountain range, from Half Moon Bay in the north, to Mount Madonna in the south. The east and west boundaries are defined by elevation, extending down to 800 feet in the east and 400 feet in the west. |
