Tasted by chatters on 12/16/2022: Supps at KC's (KC's place): Softly engaging, subtle and gentle, red hued fruits are fleshy and generous, sweet and savoury spice, a little brambly underpin. Juicy, a little herbaceous note joins the baked fruits on the palate, tannins near resolved, vanilla, less savoury spice on the palate. Lovely and wonderful to try next to the 2015 (1364 views)
Tasted by MichielV on 10/24/2022 & rated 92 points: W lamb eggplant mousaka. Fantastic ccombo. Really great well integrated wine at top of bottle. This will live much longer but why try to time the market. Very good zin flavors (red fruit dominates) great nose and fun length and finish. This is Ridge Lytton Springs at it best. (1157 views)
Tasted by WetRock on 5/25/2022: Still dense, not showing any translucency. Moderate bricking and some maturity around the edges of expression. Yet, the big, bold Zinberry broadcasts out of the glass still. Along with some lava rocks, plum and cocoa. A pinch of heat too. Still generous, weighty, fleshy fruit on the palate. Light tannin and just enough acidity. Could use more honestly. This is very expressive for its age though. There is a lot to work with yet. Its in a good spot but no harm in letting this go for many more years. (1749 views)
Tasted by chatters on 12/12/2021: An old friend. Decanted and consumed over a couple of hours - cherry, vanilla, chocolate, a smidge of coconut, touches of plums are joined by a little tertiary leather and earth. Balanced. Lovely. (2061 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 10/13/2021 & rated 92 points: Drinking really well. Aged gracefully. Continue to stock up on these to drink down the road. (2005 views)
Tasted by chatters on 6/5/2021: 4th Annual 7 Deadly Zins (well, 24 this time) (Ben and Estella's place, Parramatta): From Coravin. Ugh, dirty glass. Gave it a shake and it showed cherry, plums, leather, earth. Savoury with juicy acidity, talc textured tannins, a little dried out for me, plus and earth carry here. Hmm (1673 views)
Tasted by Rhwinetracker on 1/25/2021: Half of the cork was raised a mm or two, but this was not an issue and the wine was sound. Decanted 1 hour. Only a small amount of sediment in the bottle. Almost purple in color with some bricking. Dark cherry, tea, good acidity and polished tannins. Concentrated, but well balanced. In a good place right now. (1817 views)
Tasted by hargy on 10/20/2020 & rated 92 points: this was a revelation - nothing on day 1 when I assumed the wine had faded to nothing but having left most of the bottle overnight, the next evening revealed a gentle wine but with distinct fruit, complex and long - fantastic! (1803 views)
Tasted by KCRWSUMMERDAY on 7/24/2020 & rated 93 points: Purchased a 2L in 2009 to help a charity auction. Largest bottle I ever managed. Concerned because I don't have a cellar/temp controlled environment. Stored in the shipper inverted until 7/21/20. I'd been trying to find a good large party to open it, but many people like a variety, so when my cousin turned 94 in the midst of COVID-19, I decided to drive it 400 miles with it as my shotgun. Cork was basically in good shape. The wine was lovely with fresh Maine lobster, homemade Cole slaw and dill pickles and corn on-the-cob. The large format kept it safe for a bit longer than the projected 10 years. More than half of the wine remained after the dinner, so I put it into a refrigerator, took it back 400 miles along the beautiful CA coast highway and debated into two bottles for my own enjoyment. Tonite, pesto and mozzarella on Acme sourdough. Life is short. Drink it all ASAP! (1928 views)
Tasted by JS1056 on 6/11/2020 & rated 93 points: Beautiful wine. Big expressive nose of black cherry. Lush in the mouth, with an explosion of dark fruit and a long earthy finish. (1987 views)
Tasted by drmarclevine on 5/3/2020 & rated 89 points: PNP. Tart raspberries with creosote and a dash of creaminess on the nose. Quite perfumed. In the mouth it was lots of Zin-berries, a hit of white pepper and more round creaminess. All the elements are there but it just didn't hang together in a harmonious way. Like an orchestra with someone slightly out of tune. Perhaps we waited a year or two too long. Nevertheless, a solid effort from Ridge. Drink up. (1849 views)
Tasted by chatters on 1/17/2020: Coravin fun - Ridge range; 1/15/2020-1/17/2020 (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Black tea, a little flat initially, leather, sweet spice, earth, vanilla, slight cherry, quite tired nose on this wine though there is an underpin of black cherry and plum. Far better on the palate, savoury, plummy, a little black cherry, leather, quite dense and broad, tannins are silky fleshy. Long. Nice. (2099 views)
Tasted by MarkLA on 12/2/2019 & rated 91 points: Plum cake, cinchona, cocoa, underbrush, gravel. Rich on the palate with medium plus acidity. Finishes with black tea, leather, and chocolate covered raisins. Some tannins left to resolve but provide a nice counterbalance (91+). Drink now to 2025. (1735 views)
Tasted by MaineMark on 11/30/2019 & rated 91 points: Earthy aromas and a tart cherry and cranberry pallet punctuated by still-drying tannins and sharp acidity. A little too much on the acidity and tannins to feel well integrated.

It makes me think this still has many more years in it, and could improve further, but I don't have enough experience with well aged Lytton Springs to know for sure. (1888 views)
Tasted by DaddyNeedsPow on 8/23/2019 & rated 92 points: What a treat to drink this from magnum with good friends! Probably the most elegant Zin on the planet, harmonious and polished. I love the way the oak plays, alternately smoothing out the texture and spicing up the finish (which also features cran and cherry flavors alongside the spicy oak). (1807 views)
Tasted by drmarclevine on 7/13/2019 & rated 88 points: Promising nose of raspberry, tobacco and cola. Fell short in the mouth, however. Lots of strawberries but not much else happening. Lacked weight. On the downslope. Drink up. (1808 views)
Tasted by Teamcrev on 5/1/2019 & rated 89 points: Lat of the 2007's. Better right out of the bottle than on the 2nd and 3rd night. (1872 views)
Tasted by cweiss on 4/22/2019: Even from 375 this continues to bring commendable depth of fruit. A little bit lifted, which together with the acid balance increases the freshness. (1766 views)
Tasted by rmarkey on 12/28/2018 & rated 94 points: Excellent, 14.5% alc.
Colour: deep red berries
Bouquet: rich ripe raspberries, cereal, herbal, savoury
Palate: as bouquet, dry red berries, soft tannins, chewy, great length.
December 2018 (2013 views)
Tasted by cweiss on 12/3/2018: Same note as year ago--
From a 375. Bright exuberant fruit with some depth. No heat. Drinking well now. Matched well with leftover pot roast. (1988 views)
Tasted by WetRock on 11/23/2018: This is pretty good and aging slowly. The fruit still carries plenty of flesh and strong ripe purity. A nice dose of tannin to make it interesting. A lovely expression of classic California Zinfandel and field blends. Really good and in a great place. (2173 views)
Tasted by cubswinws on 10/27/2018 & rated 90 points: From magnum. Fresh and expressive with mixed black fruits and zippy finish. (1787 views)
Tasted by jrobs7777 on 8/12/2018: Plenty of time still to go here. Give it another 10? Nice acidity. Blackberry, blueberry pie filling. The fruit is nice and integrated. There is a nice herbal note. Juicy. (2282 views)
Tasted by chatters on 8/5/2018: Supper with the girls (E & M's in the rocks, Sydney): Lovely, plummy and cherry, chocolate. This bottle still very primary. Joyful yumminess. (2032 views)
Tasted by Teamcrev on 7/1/2018 & rated 92 points: Excelllent with burgers. Big flavors, drinking perfectly now. (2058 views)

Producer website | Wikipedia

Ridge Vineyards is a California winery specializing in premium Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Chardonnay wines. Ridge produces wine at two winery locations in northern California. The original winery facilities are located at an elevation of 2,300 feet (700 m) on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA near Cupertino, California. The other Ridge winery facilities are at Lytton Springs in the Dry Creek Valley AVA of Sonoma County.

Ridge Lytton Springs

History
In 1972, Ridge made its first Lytton Springs from vines planted on the eastern half of the vineyard at the turn of the century, and purchased both the eastern and western portions of the vineyard in the early 1990s, (In the 1870s, under "Captain" William Litton's ownership, the two were part of one property; spelling evolved into "Lytton" by 1903.) The vineyard is planted to zinfandel and its principal complementary varietals.

In the heart of Dry Creek Valley, home to 100 year old Zinfandel vines, co-planted (as was the norm) with small amounts of Petite Sirah, Carignane, Grenache and Mourvedre, Lytton Springs is Ridge’s Sonoma HQ. This is ideal Zinfandel country and produces wines that are spectacular both young and with age.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
