Tasted by mwneil on 4/23/2016 & rated 82 points: Some fruit but astringent finish that made the wine unattractive, friend brought the bottle over, drank with swordfish and scallops, not the best accompaniments but whatever. Won't drink again as we won't find it. (1734 views)
Tasted by Guyc on 1/2/2012 & rated 85 points: Apparently the wine smell likes my wife's grandads glass cabinet which I have no context or understanding for. But.. The wine has a lit and fruity body, with a swill it doesn't linger on the side of the glass. Aroma of Strawberries and oak, peppery and oaky taste. Not a lot of tongue drying going on so doubt there is a ton of tannin in the bottle. We drunk this over two days, 1st was painfully paired with a curry, second with a sausage pasta and that pair performance exquisitly. (5207 views)
Tasted by Vinotage on 3/4/2011 & rated 85 points: Earthy wine with fruity flavors. Smooth and easy to drink. (6058 views)
Tasted by bretrooks on 12/17/2010: SLO Tasting Group - Secret Santa 2010 Tasting: Decanted ~45 minutes. Seemed a bit closed, but others didn't mind. Not inky in appearance, but dark inky flavors on the palate, along with cherry skins and subtle minerality. Struck me as fairly elegant for a young Tuscan wine. Good, but needs time to blossom.  Tasted by Big_Dave on 11/27/2010 & rated 91 points: Excellent. Loved this wine. Full of flavor, party in my mouth. Will buy again. (6424 views)
Tasted by Big_Dave on 11/24/2010 & rated 82 points: On the nose there were good quality aromas, mature fruit; plums and cherries under alcohol and a hint of mint. In the mouth it felt nicely balanced; the tannins left my mouth pleasantly dry, then the acidity started to make its presence felt as my mouth watered. There was no hint of the 14% alcohol, it felt like a light, very drinkable wine. The flavours didn’t last particularly long and we felt that they quite match up to the promise of the bouquet.
Verdict: A well made wine. (5193 views)
Tasted by FJB on 3/26/2009 & rated 89 points: The 2007 Poggio alla Guardia is an impressive blend of Cabenet, Merlot and Sangiovese. It is accessible fruit forward easy to understand enty level wine that should fit perfectly to pasta and other typical itallian dishes. Very good balance, good mouthfeel and quite good finish. At ~ 10 Euro this is a screaming value (89). (3860 views)

SuperTuscan Blend

SuperTuscan Blend refers to wines which feature a significant Sangiovese component combined with grapes not traditionally associated with Italy like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon. This separates it from "Sangiovese blend" which is used for wines which are predominantly Sangiovese and combined with traditional Italian varieties. There is often confusion as many wines most famous associated with the term "Super Tuscan" like Sassicaia, Masseto and Ornellaia have no Sangiovese and are properly linked to 'Red Bordeaux Blend.'

In fact, Super Tuscan was a term coined to refer specifically to wines such as Sassicaia and Tignanello. These were wines that "fell out" of the official DOCG classification of Italian wines because they either contained grapes not permitted (international varietals such as cabernet sauvignon or merlot,) were aged differently (I.e. in barrique) or were 100% sangiovese - which was not permitted at the time for Chianti (E.g. Fontodi Flaccianello.) Forced to be classified as simply "Vina di Tavola" these wines nontheless quickly found favour in international markets and comanded prices above the highest quality DOCG Chianti Classico & Brunello di Montalcino wines at the time. The wine industry and press began to refer to these wines as SuperTuscans because of their popularity and quality, but also because of the prices they commanded. Subsequently, the Italian authorities, under the Goria Law 1992, redrew the classifications, and included the category IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) to classify the SuperTuscans.
