Community Tasting Notes (average 90.2 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 50 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Petess on 3/26/2015 & rated 98 points: Exactly what I'm looking for in a Ridge Zin. Currently at its peak. Perfect elegant balance between the rich zin/petite sirah classic fruit and secondaries combined with harmonious levels of tannin (with a little dusting at the very end) and just the right amount of acidity. Couldn't have asked for more (173 views)
Tasted by casjf on 10/24/2014 & rated 87 points: Past its prime. Drank with Indian food: rogan josh, chicken pasanda, salmon tandoori tikka kabob, and eggplant. (612 views)
Tasted by casjf on 8/18/2014 & rated 91 points: Drinking well now. Classic Ridge zin. Served with BBQ chicken & fresh-picked summer tomatoes with a chopped fresh herb topping. (828 views)
Tasted by Rmonty on 3/19/2014 & rated 93 points: Deep ruby color with slight haze. Aromatic roasted oak, fleshy, bramble, ravenous wild vines. Full bodied with powerful flavors of black licorice, black currant, smoke & cracked pepper on long, lingering finish. Drinking nice now, do not hold any longer. Paired well with goat cheese lasagna. (1234 views)
Tasted by wagging_tail on 1/7/2014 & rated 92 points: Drinking very well, classic old vine Nervo with deep flavors and a long finish thanks to that 7% petite sirah. This opened up over 2 hours or so, faster than some other old Ridges such as carignan. Nice, big nose that went well with spicy sausage and lentils.

Tasted by Firefly78 on 11/24/2013 & rated 90 points: Red fruits and spices leaping out of the glass, nicely balanced and bright. Became more subtle and monotonous as the evening progressed, but that didn't seem to bother anyone.. (1382 views)
Tasted by guitarguy on 10/24/2013 & rated 86 points: I think this was on the downhill slide. Spice and berry in the nose muted sour cherry, pepper and leather notes. Balanced but also understated a bit too much. (1176 views)
Tasted by Replevin on 9/2/2013: Rich dark black berry fruits. Very round and full-bodied with some balancing tart acid and a gorgeous long and brambly finish. Worth a note as one of the better ATP Zinfandels I have tasted. January 2008 bottle label note from Eric Baugher suggests a window of 4/5 years - this period now passed, this can clearly go 3-5 years longer before any decline. Per label, these vines are over 100 years old. (1029 views)
Tasted by fredb on 6/14/2013: Medium-dark red color; limited transparency. Aromas of red berry fruit and some sweet vanilla notes. Palate is red fruited with plenty of ripeness, but no stewed, prune, raisin, or cooked fruit character. The tannins and alcohol here are fully integrated and this drinks well. Preferred the Caboose to this earlier in the week, but this is drinking well too. Drink. (833 views)
Tasted by emtame on 4/3/2013 & rated 92 points: Similar to my 3/5/13 note. Just super tasty zinfandel in a style that really suits my palate. (829 views)
Tasted by emtame on 3/5/2013 & rated 93 points: Big, compelling nose right from the moment the cork leaves the bottle...settles down a bit as the wine gets some air. Crimson in the glass, showing a bit more age visually than the bouquet would suggest. On the palate, this is still full of fresh wild berries with a light peppery note underneath. The finish is smooth and clean. This ranks up there with some of the best Ridge zins I've had. Really yummy. The empty glass gives off scents of baking spice and warm turbinado sugar. Again, yum!  Tasted by Geoff Stedman on 12/22/2012 & rated 92 points: Very smooth and balanced. Really liked it. (966 views)
Tasted by winemaker on 11/25/2012 & rated 91 points: Medium transparent red. Smells of boysenberry fruit. Tastes the same. No tannins to speak of, soft acids, but delicious. Smooth and long. (910 views)
Tasted by CU on 10/29/2012 & rated 91 points: Great drinking window. Fruit with some acidity and long finish. Much better than the Ridge Caboose ATP we had recently. (930 views)
Tasted by winemaker on 2/11/2012 & rated 92 points: Excellent Zin! Smooth and rich. Long finish. Deft use of oak. (1146 views)
Tasted by tplskylrk on 9/30/2011 & rated 91 points: This performed so well so quickly, great wine. P&P, Rich dark purple, just a hint or orange at the edges? The sweet ripe Zin is balanced nicely w the PS. good tannins roughing up the fruit, the PS finishes the palate, then a nice cherry thing, sweetness but in a good way, bright strawberries, cranberries, leather. This is really nice. Bit of heat on its own. Agree w WD as well. (1343 views)
Tasted by WDSteers on 9/5/2011 & rated 90 points: this aged best of many Ridge zins. still good fruit forward zin with backbone of tannins softening without loosing dark fruit, jammy flavor. Paired well with Andouie sausage pizza (1301 views)
Tasted by kosinski on 5/6/2011 & rated 88 points: Has developed nicely since my last note in 2009. Now shows velvety red berry flavors atop a core of crisp acidity. Also a touch of earthy and woody notes. Still fairly grippy and will stand up to additional aging. (1539 views)
 Tasted by ogres3 on 1/4/2011: D (1802 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 1/4/2011: Drank in Saba. No comments. (1816 views)
Tasted by chrwhite on 12/25/2010 & rated 90 points: This wine (93% Zinfandel/7% Petite Sirah) showed purple in the glass with a red ring. Blackberry, oak, and spice box on the nose. A plush mouthfeel with black cherry, strawberry, and mulled spice. Drying tannins on the back end. The finish is long and very satisfying with blackberry, blueberry, and vanilla spice notes. The first of three 2006 Ridge Zins we tasted on Christmas day. (1820 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 11/13/2010: Standard Ridge zin. Good to drink during week when not decanting or making a high mass out of wine selections for dinner. (1839 views)
Tasted by Harddriv on 10/17/2010 & rated 91 points: Plenty of fruit, but not over the top. Velvety and smooth drinking on it's own. (1929 views)
Tasted by marksfamily on 8/10/2010 & rated 88 points: Beautiful nose of raspberry, blackberry, dried plum, and plum. Incredibly restrained and smooth for a Zin (almost a bit too smooth?). Very well integrated. The tanin level is barely perceptible in the back of the mouth. Taste of, juicy grapes, stone, cherry, Dr. Pepper, Cherry Coke. Not as punchy as a traditional Ridge zin (is there such a thing)? Lovely. (2088 views)
Tasted by jrlamia on 7/5/2010 & rated 90 points: good structure. rich, smooth, dry. not as fruity as most zins. black fruit. spice notes, not peppery. cocoa on the finish. (2189 views)
