Tasted by vinodolphin on 1/25/2016 & rated 90 points: Last bottle of this one. It has held up well and provided nice parings. (243 views)
Tasted by oog on 9/20/2015: drank without noting, but this was actually pretty ok as opposed to undrinkable in its youth. (475 views)
Tasted by wss on 6/1/2015 & rated 90 points: It was one of those 'how did I let this cellar so long moments' that turned out to be a remarkable surprise. Time has rounded this zin without costing taste. Jammy current and berry still there but with a mellow and smooth delivery. I need more surprises like this. (581 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 4/23/2015 & rated 90 points: Again, I opened this with trepidation but again there was no disappointment. A really solid Zin and still drinking well. (585 views)
Tasted by tomherer on 4/3/2015 & rated 91 points: This is holding up damn well for going on a decade. There's a thin brick rim, but no age shows up on the palate. Strawberries and leather on the nose. More fresh strawberries, cherry, cloves, cinnamon, and licorice for flavors. Long, delicate finish -- rides out almost like pinot. Since following the drunken cyclist a while back, I've aged more zin. Glad for it tonight. (643 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 9/9/2014 & rated 90 points: Based upon some reviews, I thought this might be past it's date. Still great with food. Two bottles left for next year. We shall see. (965 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 5/20/2014 & rated 90 points: Open for 30 minutes. Followed my own advice and drank this in one sitting. We enjoyed it very much. Dark fruits with a touch of pepper at the end. Not a great Zin but a pretty good one. (998 views)
Tasted by Gjpass on 3/20/2014: Past it time. Starting to oxidize. Drink them if you have them. (1049 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 5/28/2013 & rated 90 points: Got caught short and had to PNP this one. Still cool from the cellar but what a gem. Perhaps our best one so far. (1935 views)
Tasted by Raja on 5/3/2013 & rated 91 points: Had it with Ethiopian food at Zeni. (1945 views)
Tasted by syrahz on 11/21/2012 & rated 91 points: So sorry it's the last bottle. (2275 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 11/5/2012 & rated 89 points: Allowed to sit for an hour; nice fruit with a touch of pepper. Inadvertently left half a glass open for several hours; pepper gone with a notably extracted taste. Still a good QPR. (2117 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 8/27/2012 & rated 89 points: Wonderful fruit. A touch of heat but I think that will subside on day 2. (2196 views)
Tasted by lumpkins on 3/4/2012 & rated 89 points: bramble berry and spice without being overly extracted or syrupy. (1620 views)
Tasted by syrahz on 11/6/2011 & rated 91 points: A nice surprise for the price. Poured through a Nuance. Aromatic, fruity nose, lots of cherry and berry fruit, smooth finish. Delicious with our without food. If you'd told me this bottle cost $25 I wouldn't have been surprised. Great QPR. I wish I would have bought more on that deal...fourteen bucks and free shipping. (2863 views)
Tasted by JRWehner on 7/22/2011 & rated 91 points: Decanting definitely did this wine wonders. Really enjoyed it. (2718 views)
Tasted by patent_atty on 6/4/2011 & rated 89 points: smooth with lots of berries. Nice for the price. (3603 views)
Tasted by tabrand on 3/9/2011 & rated 92 points: Big fruit nose, smooth finish, taste of a much more expensive wine. Would buy again, especially with Bevmo's 5 cent deal! (3410 views)
Tasted by alister on 2/28/2011 & rated 91 points: Rather hot initially. Let it breath for around 1.5 hrs and now much more enjoyable. Hints of blackberry and oak. Nice! (3644 views)
Tasted by biggwater on 2/27/2011 & rated 91 points: LET IT BREATH! Initially, offensive...but after an hour in the glass, it just starts to open...over night is best. Balanced, great balance of fruit and pepper (3462 views)
Tasted by stlwine on 1/23/2011 & rated 91 points: Big and plummy with vanilla, pipe tobacco, and musk. A touch hot, and a little volatile, but clean. The fruit isn't cooked or stewed. Enjoyable. (3720 views)
Tasted by woodwardcellar on 9/26/2010 & rated 91 points: Incredible. Bright cherry and a touch of secondary oak and spices. The last bottle of my set and it showed the best. Will be keeping my eye out for Haywood. (3998 views)
Tasted by nycavri on 9/2/2010 & rated 85 points: Warm, woody nose. Smooth and spicy in the mouth with a black pepper finish. (3956 views)
Tasted by woodwardcellar on 6/21/2010 & rated 90 points: Brought this to a BBQ and it really shined. Several people remarked that it was the best wine they'd had in a while. There is a little heat there, but it has all of the bold fruit flavors and rich, velvety mouth feel to balance that alcohol out. (4239 views)
Tasted by oog on 1/24/2010 & rated 75 points: Same notes as last time. Pretty thin for a Zin. Onion and tomato. Very vegetal. Don't like this wine at all. (4479 views)

California Wines (Wine Institute of California)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in over 100 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
