Tasted by chefpete on 6/29/2010 & rated 84 points: On the second day, a nice soft pinot with hints of tobacco. (1701 views)
Tasted by jfagan on 1/13/2008 & rated 89 points: Decanted 2 hours.
Showing no undue age in either the color or the nose, this wine offers up subtle aromas of sweet and savory spices, tea leaf and tart cherries. In the mouth it comes across more as Eola Hills than Yamhill with savor cranberry and tart red berries with a lovely spice element. Some richness, very composed and quite long on the finish, this is certainly the equal of many more expensive single vineyard bottlings. Very satisfying. Drink now - 2010. (2122 views)
Tasted by DesMarteau on 6/9/2006 & rated 90 points: Needs an hour to open up....good complexity...muted fruit. (2603 views)
Tasted by mraabpfg on 7/4/2005 & rated 92 points: Have always loved the soft smooth taste of Elk Cove and this 2001 was both smooth and soft, plenty of fruit with a silky finish. Always one of my favorite Pinots (2611 views)
Tasted by flashvictor on 6/2/2004 & rated 88 points: Dinner at home with crab cakes. I first notice a medium garnett wine in color. The nose opens with the traditional pinot 'earthy' smell which after about 30 minutes turned into a more floral smell. The body of the wine was very feminine with a nice 20 second ending of spice and berry. While not a crowd pleasing stand alone wine, this serves its purpose very well as a food wine (espicially at around $22/bottle). (3001 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, Austria, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.
