Tasted by gpcoleman on 7/30/2023 & rated 91 points: very nice (192 views)
Tasted by bgriffi1 on 3/17/2023 & rated 90 points: Was perfectly fine but not memorable. Had hoped for something more profound. Lots of eucalyptus but not much more. Still very young with deep color so will wait another 4-5 years before the next bottle. (254 views)
Tasted by Rick 4 Wine on 6/8/2020: Getting in in years. Still nice. Still benefits from air time but thins out on the backside of an hour breathing. (953 views)
Tasted by Jim B on 12/22/2019 & rated 92 points: Wish I had many more (995 views)
Tasted by Rick 4 Wine on 12/10/2019 & rated 91 points: Drinking really nicely here. Needs decanting and some time to unwind and show (949 views)
Tasted by Rick 4 Wine on 9/16/2018 & rated 93 points: Drinking really beautifully here. A delicious mature napa Cab. This wine is much better with some age that it ever was in its youth. (1305 views)
Tasted by rmodak on 5/27/2018 & rated 90 points: Typical Napa cab which is fruit driven, in this case dark cherry fruit, with medium weight and little in the way of minerality. Still it is enjoyable with grilled steak and is fully resolved. (1645 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 5/20/2018 & rated 91 points: Very dark red color. PNP, drank 2 glasses over 2 hours. This has continued to resolve and is still drinking nicely. Dark fruits, cassis, and black cherry with tobacco, full bodied, straightforward with grainy somewhat dusty tannins, spices and plum on a medium finish. Well structured, holds together, save an maybe an occasional subtle hint of heat. The wood is folded in well. For the 26.95 I paid on release, this was a darn good value. I think you can hang on to these for a couple years should you wish before any concerns. (1448 views)
Tasted by markcic on 7/22/2017 & rated 90 points: Opened for two hours and then poured through a vintorio - ten years old and drinking very nice. dark berries on the nose, the palate was dark berry, plum, tobacco and a hint of vanilla which came out of the finish which was smooth (1653 views)
Tasted by rjrwinesnobs on 12/25/2015 & rated 91 points: The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like red currant, blackberry, espresso and vanilla. It tastes like black currant (cassis). The body is medium. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity. (2907 views)
Tasted by Ken63 on 12/11/2015 & rated 90 points: mouth filling blueberry flavor (2512 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 10/18/2015 & rated 90 points: Very dark red/purple color. PNP, aerated into glasses; drank 2+ glasses over 90 minutes. The nose is really quite nice showing off the pretty black currants and brambly berries first with plenty of spice and hints of tobacco leaf. The palate is full bodied, with well layered darker fruit; black currant, boysenberry, red cherry, and hints of blackberry liqueur; spice, tobacco, and hints of vanillin on a medium finish. The structure and balance are good, with pleasant well proportioned medium grained tannins. The oak is fairly well integrated now. This drinks well now and should resolve even further over the next 2 years and drink for a couple more. Nice. (2629 views)
Tasted by Rick 4 Wine on 10/14/2015 & rated 89 points: Drinking ok but still a bit tight. The fruit is red and a bit tight; the tannins last throughout the body. No age really showing in the wine at this age. (2398 views)
Tasted by Rick 4 Wine on 1/1/2015 & rated 90 points: Wine is drinking well now, but unfortunately had this after a Hartwell Res '04, and this wine is clearly less balanced. The tannins are a bit sharp in the early body and some heat lingers through the finish. Sadly the fruit is already fairly subdued so in the race between fruit longevity and tannin softening, it appears the fruit is losing. I still have half a case of this, so it will be good to drink and see if softer tannins allow more fruit to come through. (2518 views)
Tasted by JDV.DDSPHD on 3/13/2014 & rated 91 points: I liked this. Big and straight forward napa cab. Black fruit up front. Gritty tannins. Dark chocolate intertwined with hints of leather. This could go another 5-10yrs and it would still be in its prime. Long lingering finish as well. Not sure why everyone was rated so low but it was pretty darn good. (2233 views)
Tasted by Rweir88 on 5/4/2013: - Brick color with slow forming legs. It's balanced with a medium body. Round texture with a long finish - Dry wine with long finish. Big bouquet. (3113 views)
Tasted by Bjoneslaw on 4/2/2013 & rated 87 points: Nice big not big nose of black currant. Soft plum and overripe black cherry at the front. Oak smoke and anise mid palate. Long on the finish but with a metallic acidic finish. Deep purple in color well beyond a red. This one has probably reached its maximum potential and is somewhere between enjoyable and serious. A bit disjointed but with a very attractive nose and initial taste. (2965 views)
Tasted by Jim B on 12/28/2012 & rated 94 points: Had with a line up 03 S.O. Napa, 04 Regucsi cab, Larkmead Solari and this Newton was best (3466 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 4/1/2012 & rated 89 points: Last nights wines: Nice solid cab. ruby/purple in color. The nose has cassis, cedar; pretty nice. On the palate, this is good, not great. Didn't really get any better over the evening but didn't drop off either. A very solid Cal Cab. (4301 views)
Tasted by gwkozar on 1/2/2012 & rated 91 points: rich red plum fruit, soft tannins. not as good on 2nd day. (3475 views)
Tasted by Bandreas on 12/8/2011 & rated 86 points: Not a bad wine, but not really complex and deep. Somehow the wine was disjointed and never really came together. same impression on the second bottle. Maybe it should have been decanted... (2903 views)
Tasted by Mugwump on 9/4/2011 & rated 92 points: Beautiful nose of cassis, cherry, spice and oak; rich cassis fruit on the palate with cherry notes and dusty tannins; tannins are a bit strong now but should integrate over the next year or two. Decanting will also help for drinking now. Great value. (3250 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 4/7/2011: Pretty straight ahead Napa cab. Some gutiser tannins on the back. (3411 views)
Tasted by BigShlo on 4/2/2011 & rated 91 points: Huge legs- that's what sticks with me... a lot of fruit, some heat but mellows, and balance throughout with some length on the finish. Nice deal! (3524 views)
Tasted by joshwoodward on 3/11/2011 & rated 90 points: Cincinnati Wine Festival (Cincinnati, OH): Delicious nose - oaky. Structured. (3607 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
