What a surprise. We were all worried with the color...a deep gold, however, there was no oxidation and the wine was quite delicious. Dry with some butterscotch and toasty oak notes. A very pleasant drink and experience to drink a California chard of this age. (470 views) | | Tasted by buckeye76 on 6/10/1995 & rated 94 points: CREAMY CITRUS NOSE WITH PEACHES AND NECTARINES. RICH CITRUS FRUIT IN THE FLAVOR MUCH LIKE THE AROMA. MEDIUM TO LONG FINISH. (674 views) | | Tasted by MicklethePickle on 12/25/1990 & rated 86 points: Christmas Day with the turkey and K's family. Very dark straw color. Buttery, smoky nose. Vanilla. Pretty good. On the palate, it is fairly rich, high acid, lively. Somewhat tart. Not my favorite style. Couldn't hurt to age this one a few years. 5-11-14-6: 86/100. (150 views) | | Tasted by MicklethePickle on 5/3/1990 & rated 73 points: With K at home at dinner (scallop risotto). Yellow-gold. In the nose, comes across light, lemony, restrained. Oaky. Not much to like. On the palate, fleshy and substantial, but there's really very little fruit or flavor. Seems terribly awkward and out of balance, with oak dominating. This wine is a major disappointment. I'd be surprised if it improved at all. 5-8-7-3: 73/100. (154 views) |
| Chalone Vineyard Producer websiteChardonnay The Chardonnay GrapeUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Central Coasthttp://www.ccwinegrowers.org/links.html
