Tasted by Spencer on 1/29/2014: Big and heady. Needs time. (1281 views)
Tasted by khmark7 on 4/6/2013 & rated 89 points: Concentrated, dark with white pepper and somewhat sharp tannins. You can smell the sweetness from the alcohol, but the high acidity keeps everything mostly balanced, but not perfect. This is a big wine, but an upfront red that would go well with juicy burgers rather than traditional southern Rhone style dishes. (1557 views)
Tasted by thebonnydooner on 11/23/2012 & rated 90 points: Probably had a little too young - but wanted to have a go with some turkey and leftovers. This is a nice intense wine, medium bodeid but full of blackberry, currant and black cherry fruit. there are firm tannins and lots of acidity which hides the 15% alcohol very well. This does not veer to the jammy side (the dark side) but stays pretty nimble for a big tasting wine. Only complaint is that it does not have that much complexity. Very good none the less.  Tasted by brianngibson on 11/21/2012 & rated 93 points: Age has done this well. It was great all along, but I think it is in a special place. Great burst of pepper, game and smoke, but with beautiful dark fruit still present. (1800 views)
Tasted by davudvl on 10/21/2012 & rated 91 points: Smooth and balanced (1780 views)
Tasted by stbraunt on 8/25/2012 & rated 91 points: Decanted for an hour, but still very strong. A hint of sweetness and a thick, dark color and texture. Rich and delicious. (1326 views)
Tasted by St Paul on 12/26/2011 & rated 90 points: Coffee, Chocolate and fire. The alcohol is coming through in the aftertaste. Maybe it lacks a bit of fruit and balance to keep up with over 15% alcohol. Needs heavy food. (1456 views)
Tasted by gesusser on 10/27/2011 & rated 91 points: Tannic even after one hour decant; still very nice & got better as we opened a 2nd bottle; give it more time (1296 views)
Tasted by brianngibson on 7/13/2011 & rated 91 points: Meat, smoke, and earth. Excellent. (1423 views)
Tasted by stantheman on 2/16/2011 & rated 92 points: This was not a huge as I anticipated, but was still wonderfully balanced and rich and delicious. (1592 views)

California Wines (Wine Institute of California)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in over 100 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
