Tasted by Alden on 10/22/2022 & rated 90 points: Well, I actually opened this by mistake because I decided to use a lesser wine with my standard unhealthy burger. I had a couple of wines out and just in a rush and didn't look at the label. It is certainly fully mature as I suspected but not over the hill.
Just a delicious wine consumed right out of the bottle. I have one more which I will drink very soon. Drink and enjoy! (645 views)
Tasted by Darkhorn on 4/18/2021 & rated 88 points: Past its prime. Good. (1542 views)
Tasted by toddeo on 6/26/2020 & rated 92 points: Hitting it’s peak drinking range. (1730 views)
Tasted by Labrador on 6/12/2020 & rated 86 points: No formal notes, but we enjoyed this wine. (1734 views)
Tasted by BMacPhilly on 5/30/2020: Solid Bordeaux. Better than expected. (1770 views)
Tasted by Martin_G on 7/24/2019: Very food friendly. At beginning of prime drinking window. Now-2025, probably. (1731 views)
Tasted by hotdogbudget on 4/25/2018 & rated 91 points: Stony scent, topsoil, pencil lead and plum on the palette. No obvious oak. Good freshness and not heavy. A very drinkable, food friendly medium bodied Bordeaux. A pleasure to drink (2307 views)
Tasted by CieloVista on 4/15/2017 & rated 90 points: ....similar to previous tasting (3302 views)
Tasted by lmbernstein on 5/6/2016 & rated 90 points: Tastes like moist rotting earth. Soil heavy. Delicious. Short finish. A bit monochromatic but very enjoyable. (5019 views)
Tasted by Martin_G on 9/9/2015 & rated 87 points: Drank over fours hours, with one hour decanting prior. Too bretty for me up untill the last hour of drinking, then it began to show a more balanced profile of leather, meat and dark fruit. Real smooth, integrated tannins, medium+ concentration. Did not taste like other left bank ive had, but the intent perhaps tends towards more modern style. Good value if you only consider last hour of drinking.

Second bottle a week later was different. No brett but more alcohol (?) and thinner middle. I have one left which ill put away for a few years. 2nd bottle 86 p. (6425 views)
Tasted by CieloVista on 1/20/2015 & rated 90 points: Dark ruby red with aromas and flavors of dark fruit, ripe cherries and some leather...a nice earthiness. Medium bodied, balanced, soft and nice clean finish.

Tasted by dbg on 1/5/2015: Opened to compare to the 2010.

Pop and pour same day as purchased. Dark red to rim. Forward nose with show Graves-y minerally earth, very ripe red fruits, cherry, cassis and some roasted aromas on the nose. Medium to full body, nice balance with very ripe fruits, subdued tannins, medium finish. Nice Graves typicity and great QPR. Like the 2010, probably not made for the long haul but should continue to drink well for the next 5-10 years. Very good to excellent.

Compared to the 2010, this is richer, riper and fuller-bodied, but less acidic/fresh on the balance spectrum with some roasted notes that the 2010 doesn't have. I prefer the 2010 on this evening but both offer a very pleasurable drinking experience. (5634 views)
Tasted by MSmith1668 on 12/13/2014 & rated 87 points: Had with roasted chicken. A little heavy, long finish. Good tannins , Reasonably smooth taste. (3828 views)
Tasted by Whitetail Wino on 10/11/2014 & rated 89 points: Best on 3rd night, after an hour in the decanter. Has a good amount of life left in it--CT drink dates are about right (until 2023). (2868 views)
Tasted by cojunbali on 9/2/2014 & rated 89 points: out of the bottle the nose is muted with tightly bound fruit oak and tannins. a two hour decant reveals a lovely floral and mineral bouquet with cherry and chocolate. soft mouth feel with good balance. plum and cherry notes with mineral, earth and hints of oak. a bit one dimensional with a short finish otherwise a very good wine in this price range ($22) (2642 views)
Tasted by Neecies on 6/26/2014 & rated 89 points: Tested for Bastille Day tasting. Terrific wine for the price ($25 before discount) with robust leathery red fruit and good minerality. Unmistakably Bordeaux, drinks well w/o decanting. (2445 views)
Tasted by Ironpeddler on 4/10/2014 & rated 90 points: Five years later the tannins are loosening up a bit, not nearly as sharp or as earthy. Still a very bold, leathery red. Certainly more age will open up the fruit, but I still enjoyed the bottle. I took the recommendations and decanted for well over an hour and it opened up the flavors quite a bit. Thoroughly enjoyed it while smoking a Montecristo #2 cigar, a perfect pairing. (2724 views)
Tasted by similan on 11/12/2013 & rated 92 points: Nice funky red. Mourning the consumption of my last bottle. (3840 views)
Tasted by JoshA on 9/6/2013 & rated 88 points: An earthy Bordeaux with ripe, dark fruits shining through the tannins. (3906 views)
Tasted by Whitetail Wino on 5/8/2013 & rated 90 points: Well balanced with just proper amount of oak. Will buy more. (4209 views)
Tasted by BrandiLove on 2/23/2013 & rated 89 points: While I typically prefer big , full bodied reds, I also enjoy medium bodied, earthy wines .. especially those from France. This Chateau Rochemorin Rouge Pessac, 2009 required about an hour or more of decanting but the wait was worth it.

This was a wonderful wine for about 30 bucks. After an hour of breathing, the nose was that of blueberry and "barnyard" which I have to admit was unusual for me but apparently typical of the old vine, Bordeaux wines.

On the tongue, the wine was terrific. Lots of blueberry herbs and had a leathery / tobacco finish that I really enjoyed! We had this with a pot roast coated in Rosemary, tyme, flour, salt and pepper and then slow roasted in a mixture of cream of mushroom soup, Worcestershire sauce, lipton onion soup mix, some red wine and veggies.

It was a fantastic pairing!

I will definitely pick up a few more bottles of this "different" but delicious Bordeaux! (5471 views)
Tasted by Life At Your Leisure 🍷 on 1/20/2013 & rated 90 points: Dark violet color with a rich, lifted, seductive nose of unmistakable Medoc earth, saddle leather, and currant. The palate is dry, but somehow there's a rich deposit of ripe dark fruits behind the tannic structure - nothing that can't be cured by time. Hints of tobacco, smoke, vanilla, leather, and toasted oak come through on the decent finish. Drink now with 30 minutes of decanting, or from 2014 to 2023. (4040 views)
Tasted by Whitetail Wino on 8/17/2012 & rated 90 points: Cedar, leather, herbs on the nose. Firm tannins. Looking forward to laying the rest down. (3762 views)
Tasted by BBinSC on 7/20/2012 & rated 92 points: 91-93 Tasted this at the Chateau in 2010 from barrel; this time was the first in bottle. Shockingly good -- fantastic aromatics of earth, graphite, black fruit. Palate was long and lingering -- I agree with the previous reviewer that this wine would benefit from aging, but it is certainly vibrant now. Best ever from this estate, and best from all their holdings in this vintage (including Dauzac). (3486 views)
Tasted by sipnwine on 5/14/2012: I wasn't a big fan of this wine and at $30 there's much better wines I'd rather be drinking. (2983 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
