Tasted by Brain Capers on 4/18/2022: Last bottle, covered with dust. Another broken cork, but wow, excellent CDP! Had with Monday sourdough pizzas. Lovely. (471 views)
Tasted by Beachfan on 2/16/2019 & rated 89 points: I little on the Grenache tasting side, but nice (1170 views)
Tasted by pbaek on 2/25/2018: By no means over the hill but just a bit dull. Plenty of red fruit, focused, good structure, notes of white pepper and garrigue. Fine, well made, lacks character. (1644 views)
Tasted by stoneb on 6/16/2015 & rated 87 points: Bright ruby color. Cherry nose. Red and black fruit with medium body on the palate; balanced acidity and fully resolved tannin. Short finish. This was better 5 years ago and won't get better from here. Still an enjoyable wine but time to drink up. (3493 views)
Tasted by cab on 1/3/2015: Sorry to see the last bottle go, but probably time to drink. Very southern Rhonish, but at this point low key, soft, not aggressive. Nothing else to add to prior notes. (3650 views)
Tasted by klausner1 on 9/19/2014 & rated 94 points: A touch of brick red going into the decanter, but deep raspberry in the glass. Heady, sweet nose with tar, black fruit and a hint of mushroom. It is striking on the palate, big with dark fruit, tar, tobacco. Tannins are present but integrating nicely. Long finish with a bit of a bite. Peaking now but should hold strong for several years. Quite delicious. (3587 views)
Tasted by ahoff on 5/13/2014 & rated 77 points: Past its prime. (3335 views)
Tasted by klausner1 on 12/25/2013 & rated 92 points: Ample nose of blackberry, cassis, menthol, and vanilla. Blackberry and dark fruit initially, then a weighty mid-palate giving way to red fruits and a decidedly welcome acidity, making the wine very food friendly (I suggest anything with bacon!). Nicely integrated tannins, an harmonious wine. Lingering finish keeps the mouth stimulated and leaves you wanting the next sip. (3203 views)
Tasted by beatles on 12/9/2013 & rated 92 points: Wonderful showing tonight - at it's peak, I think; grenache sweetness galore along with garrigue and darker spices, a lightness to this that is so atypical of the vintage, very good length. Will keep, but why, oh why? Bravo! (1855 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 8/24/2012 & rated 88 points: A Rhone-Inspired Evening (Dino's - Washington, DC): I was pleasantly surprised by this wine. It was a good Chateauneuf to start with, being elegant and fresh. Ruby color, tinged with beef broth. Aromas of sour cherry, wild raspberry, tree bark and a bit of tomato paste. Silky and light on the palate, with fine tannins and fresh acid. Tangy, snappy red fruit, black pepper and charcoal flavors glide over the palate. Very nice, restrained wine. Almost Burgundian.  Tasted by MicklethePickle on 11/2/2011 & rated 69 points: Extremely disappointing, and another bad bottle I bought at Premier Cru - never again. Nose already smells past it's prime, and there's little to like in the dried out fruit on the palate. Can't hold a candle to the stellar '98 Vieux Telegraph I had last night. Nasty. 3-6-7-3: 69/100. (3025 views)
Tasted by cab on 4/17/2011: Nowhere near over the hill and I'm not sure that this won't be better in a few years. Still tasted fairly young to me, and the tannins grew more pronounced as the evening wore on. Gamy, a little herbal, classic CdP flavors. Very enjoyable. (3199 views)
Tasted by MicklethePickle on 3/7/2011 & rated 89 points: Fairly dark color. Good legs. Rather classic Provencal nose with that telltale "garrigue" so common in the terrior. Palate echoes the nose. Round in theouth with good richness and chewy tannins. Evolves and finishes nicely if quickly. 5-12-15-7: 89/100. (3267 views)
Tasted by wynnewood500 on 2/6/2011: Great drinking. Nose open immediately. Medium bodied so it went well with a cream based fish stew. Not at all tannic with mellow fruit flavors dominating the tastes. Has not develped the tertiary flavors yet. (2735 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 12/23/2010: Good showing, but further along in its evolution than last time. Drink now. (2815 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 12/19/2010 & rated 91 points: Holiday Gathering and Winetasting (Sandy & Michael's, Los Altos, California): Dark red violet color; tart berry, black fruit, sage nose; rich black fruit, smoky, tart berry, lavender, charcoal palate; medium finish (2759 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 6/7/2010: In line with my tasting notes from the last two bottles: bright raspberry fruit, lavender and garrigue; there is just a suggestion of raisin, but this wine is not over-ripe. The tannins seem melted, the palate silky and smooth with age, while still ripe and fresh and vibrant. Here is a CdP that has benefited from age, in that it has softened and grown charming and classy, yet is still youthful and alive. Drink now and over the next few years. Of all the CdP that I have cellared over the years, including the Beau and Pegau and Rayas and all the fancy cuvees, this is one of the most reliable, most pleasing of all, and one of the most honest and representative of Old School, real CdP. (3195 views)
Tasted by Veloman on 4/2/2010: This was ready to drink--slightly pale garnet, mellow red fruit, earthy, med-bodied and balanced. Hints of licorice on the finish, not super-complex but certainly showing more fruit than last bottle a couple of years ago and very enjoyable. (3357 views)
Tasted by stoneb on 2/28/2010 & rated 90 points: Opened but not decanted 2 hours before consumption. Garnet/ruby color with a hint of amber at the rim. Grape/cherry nose with some menthol and spice; interesting.Nice bright berry fruit (kirsch is close but not exactly right in my view) with cedar and light herbs and just a hint sweetness in the finish; nice. Good acidity. No need to rush, but I don't think this is going to improve with further bottle age. (3360 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 2/25/2010: Nice kirsch and some lighter cherry, tannins are smoothed out, much less intensity than past bottles, and with a hint of raisin on the back. This bottle is in the stage that I would call "elegant", which is a nice way of saying that it's losing its fortitude and should be enjoyed sooner rather than later. (3449 views)
Tasted by JoeB on 2/17/2010 flawed bottle: Corked (3706 views)
Tasted by ggtirevite on 1/10/2010 & rated 91 points: Had a Jaja's over new years. Very smooth, nice and earthy CDP (3656 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 11/27/2009: Another great showing. In its prime. A glass full of kirsch, garrigue and red liquorice. Perhaps a drop less intensity than last time, suggesting that this wine is at peak. I compare this to the blockbuster, high scoring wines like St. Jean and Janasse and just shake my head and laugh that this is real and honest CdP. (3691 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 9/18/2009: Like the bottle last month (TN below), this bottle was less evolved than bottles in the past, which leads me to conclude that this recent acquisition of six more came from a very cold cellar. Here we have a really delicious, traditional CdP that is drinking near peak. Juicy palate and nose of pure cherry kirsch, with tannins that have matured to the point of a very silky mouthfeel. There is an elegance here, a purity that makes me smile. Keep your St. Jean and Janasse and Roger Perrin and all the spoofy, over-ripe CdP and give me this honest $30 CdP every time. (3789 views)

Rockss and Fruit (1/26/2005)
(Domaine de la Charbonniere Charteauneuf "Mourre des Perdrix") Nice floral, cherry, tea leaf, mint, lavender and earth. Dense, rich and concentrated with low acidity and lots of black cherry and licquorice fruit. There is a serious warmth on the finish that worries me. Great material but I have doubts that this wine will ever be in balance.

AOC Red Châteauneuf du Pape
Cuvée Hautes Brusquières

Grape varieties :
This cuvee is made up of Grenache (70%) and Syrah (30%)
The vines are between 30 to 50 years old.
Situation and soil type :
All the grapes come from the Brusquières plateau, in the north of Châteauneuf du Pape, where we can find the famous round pebbles and a clayey subsoil
Vats :
Wood and stainless steel with temperature control

Vatting :
Since 2000, we have decided to destem and to crush all grapes
Vatting lasts 3 to 5 weeks, depending on the vintage at a temperature between 25 and 30°C
A release or a punching of the cap is done every 2 days and pumping over every day.
The malolactic fermentation happens in barrels and vats.
Ageing :
Ageing continues in barrels and big oak tanks during 12 – 18 months depending on the vintage.
Tasting :
This is an atypical cuvee in terms of its complexity of aromas: deep spice, black fruit flavors and chocolate notes are overlaid with leather and a wild complexity.
This complex nectar needs a long cellaring to 15 years from vintage.
Further information:
The cuvee bottled without filtration is stocked in our warehouse air-conditioned at 16°C.

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
