As of 7/31/2013, we have announced an Alpha Preview of a new mobile website.
Please keep in mind this is an alpha site, and there will be rough edges and lots of "Not Yet Implemented" items. We've done our best to ensure those links are all greyed out, so you can't activate them, but you'll still get an idea of what we want to implement. Please post any feedback/bugs/etc you have in the CellarTracker Support forum.
Q: Where can I find the Alpha Preview of the mobile website?
A: Just browse to www.cellartracker.com/m through the browser on your phone.
Q: Who can access the mobile site?
A: Right now, only currently paying members of CellarTracker can use the new mobile site. In the future, we will open this to all site visitors.
Q: What is an Alpha? How is that different from a Beta?
A: In Greek, Alpha comes before Beta. This is a VERY early release of a new website. It has a long way to go to be functionally complete. It already is very useful, but if you are not comfortable with unfinished software then please don’t use it. We are not interested in wasting your time.
Q: What functionality is exposed on the mobile site?
A: The initial preview of the mobile website is fairly limited. It lets you search and browse tasting notes and general information on any wine or wine within your cellar. As of the initial release, the editing functionality was not yet implemented, but we have been fleshing that out as shown below.
More editing functionality (bottle editing, wine and vintage creation) will continue to be fleshed out. We plan to add ALL core CellarTracker functionality over the next few months.
Q: When I browse to CellarTracker on my smartphone, why do I get redirected to the old CellarTracker site?
A: The ‘new’ CellarTracker desktop site was never intended to be used on small form factor devices, so for now we redirect mobile traffic to the legacy CellarTracker site. Once we have sufficiently fleshed out the new mobile site and opened it to all users, then we will change that redirect to the new mobile site.
Q: Will this work on Android, Blackberry, iPhone, etc?
A: The mobile website should work on any modern smartphone that has support for HTML5. While we primarily test with iOS/Safari, Android/Chrome, and Windows Phone/IE, the site should work on a wider variety of modern devices and browsers.
Q: Why can’t I find the CellarTracker app in the App Store?
A: Right now, we are just delivering a mobile website. There is no app. You access the site in the browser on your smart phone.
Q: Do you plan on making native apps for iPhone, Android and Windows Phone?
A: Yes, once we have sufficiently fleshed out the mobile functionality, we will then look at wrapping this in native apps for a variety of platforms. Optimistically, we expect to reach this point in Q4 2013.
Q: Can I scan a barcode or take a picture of a label to identify a wine?
A: Once we have fully fleshed out the new mobile site and then created native apps, these are the first scenarios we will look at. For now you can use the 3rd party Cor.kz app for barcode scanning. We also know that people are very excited by the promise of the Vivino and Delectable apps, so we will either look to compete directly with those or to collaborate if that makes sense.
Q: What about the Cor.kz and CellarVU apps? Will these keep working?
A: Cor.kz and CellarVU are third party apps. They are not created, sold or supported by us directly. Our intention is to help the developers of those apps to ensure that these keep working, but we have no responsibility or control over these apps.
Q: My handle and password don't seem to be working to login to the mobile site. What's up?
A: First of all, make sure you are a currently paid up member of CellarTracker. Also make sure that you are entering all letters correctly with no inadvertent capitalization. Most importantly, make sure cookies are enabled in your mobile browser.
