Introduction

Scott was a gracious and knowledgeable host during our recent visit to Wind Gap. Really enjoyed spending some time with him chilling outside the winery in the warm CA sun. Great conversation about the Sonoma wine scene and Wind Gap wines.

Flight 1 - Whites (3 Notes)

Flight 2 - Reds (3 Notes)

  • 2011 Wind Gap Wines Pinot Noir 92 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

Pretty and elegant nose full of cranberry and cherry with some interesting herb and stem notes. More red fruit on the palate with a generous earthy undertone of stems and herbs. Plenty of acidic cut and juiciness. Long herb and cranberry finish. Great stuff.

  • 2011 Wind Gap Wines Old Vine Grenache Sceales Vineyard 89 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County

50% whole cluster. Nose is bright with raspberry and herbs. Palate is medium bodied and echos the nose. On the simple side today with room for upside development I suppose. Smooth finish.

  • 2010 Wind Gap Wines Syrah Sonoma Coast 93 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

Just a knock out nose ... black and red fruit, herbs, exotic spice, black olive, black pepper and game notes. Palate is silky and elegant with medium body. More red than black fruit though their is loads of pepper and olive going on. Loved this wine. Terrific.

Flight 3 - Bonus Wines (2 Notes)

Scott brought out a couple of wines from a dinner he attended the night before in SF.

  • 2011 La Clarine Farm Syrah Sumu Kaw Vineyard 92 Points

    USA, California, Sierra Foothills

Big floral aromas and rich fruit on the nose. Palate has a medium body that belies the nose. Elegant with a touch of spritz (?). Pepper, spice and black fruit. Long herby, chewy finish.

  • 2010 Jemrose Syrah Cardiac Hill Bennett Valley 93 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Bennett Valley

Inky black in appearance - very different from other wines it the line up. Nose explodes. Full throttle with smoky, herby, toasty, meaty, rich black fruit. Palate is rich and more fruit driven than the Wind Gap syrah. Loads of black fruit, olive, pepper and smoked meat. Long smoky finish. While larger scaled than the other more elegant wines, this is by no means a fruit monster. Well balanced and complex.
