Introduction

The Saturdays at One group got together to taste a few random wines. In addition, one of our group is moving soon to New York City so we decided to say goodbye by tasting our way through a 10 year vertical Chateau Lanessan.

No scores assigned to this vertical. My favorites in order were 90, 96, 05, 01, 95, 70, 59, 01, 71 and 75.

  • 1959 Château Lanessan

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc

    Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout with no sign of bricking. Nose of rubber tire, iron and leather. Flavors of tart berries and cherries with a hint of iron on the finish. Medium acidity, resolved tannins, medium body. Drink now. This bottle was past prime but still surprisingly well..

    Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass. clear hue throughout. Nose of aspirin, black berries, white pepper and a hint of roses. Flavors of black berries and black cherries. Medium to bright acidity, drying tannins, medium body. I'm still not sure the fruit will outlast the tannins and acidity of this vintage. It's still hanging in there but the acidity and tannins are still a little ahead of the fruit.
