This was pretty tight overall. There was some spice and perfumed fruit on the nose. Lean tart palate with notes of honeysuckle. A clean sweet tart wine in need of time. This was good and well made but didn't excite me or pull me in.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Served blind. Ripe nose showing buttered popcorn and egg cream/tapioca. Clean white pear and lemon on the palate with lots of butter. This seemed like a young restrained Cali Chard showing its strong oak. Guessed Arcadian. Begin the list of excuses here:
Served Blind. Ripe spicy pineapple nose. Ripe primary Sauv Blanc palate. This came off like a big styled Napa barrel sample with its sweet tart candy character though its the wrong time of the year for that. This has really held on in a way I would never expect and doesn't seem to show any signs of age. I'm not sure whether that is a good thing or not. I prefer the way his Semillon gains elegance with age. This was bombastic, big and loud.
Nose of sweet flowers, honeysuckle, peach pit and minerals. Very stony with pears and a strong finish. This came off a bit like a Sauv Blanc. I still love it. Very good.
Served blind. The nose gave the character of an old aged white that shouldn't have been held onto. Showing oxidation on the palate and seeming nearly done though still expressive.
Served blind. Pepper aromas among deep dark red fruits. More pepper on the palate and a touch of heat. I pegged it as Grenache. Zin does often show kinda Rhoney. Good.
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Served blind. Spicy nose with a stewed or aged quality. Ripe fruit with some years on it showing light notes of wood, a lean feel, spice and late heat. A modern 'wine' that comes off like a miss matched set of pieces.
USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
Served Blind. Big nose of strawberry and cranberry. The palate is pretty long with strong acidity behind some bigger fruits and no fleshiness. There is a note of charcoal giving me a strong SLH impression. AW Rosella's was best guess. Didn't come off as RRV to me which is probably a compliment.
Served blind. Pretty nose showing some reductive qualities but tight overall. Very strong wood tannins that start at the attack which remain strong across the whole palate. There is some pretty and even elegant fruit underneath but it's struggling to breath under that harsh wood.

2007 Clos Pepe Estate Pinot Noir
USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
Big perfumey nose with clear SRH lineage. Juicy and bigger than I would have expected. I'd let this chill a bit longer but not for how long.
