Very much enjoyed this event. Much better wines than other similar events in Houston. Wasn't too crowded either. Hope the secret doesn't get too far out next year.
There's nice fruit here, but this needs time.

Delicious red fruit, earth, and spice. Perfectly balanced, IMHO.

Earthy cherries and minerals. Nice, if a bit uninteresting compared to the others I tried today.

Lots of minerality and earthiness on this. Cherry fruit.

I really liked this. Beautifully balanced and rocking some rich cherry fruit with big whiffs of loam. The best QPR of the Burgs I tried today.

Dark cherry, raspberry, forest floor, and ferrous minerals. Dry, and a tad austere on the palate. This needs time, but I think it has a promising future. 91+

One of my favorite Burgs of the day. Black cherry and baking spices. Great balance and complexity.

Spicy black cherry. Nice grip. A bit too much alcohol on the finish.

Ripe cherry, earthy spices. Kirsch finish.

I found this to be over-oaked and too hot. Not a good value.

Having loved the 2003, I was a bit disappointed. Deeply honeyed but lacking acidity, so it comes across slightly cloying. Long, spicy finish.

Honey, citrus, and apricot. Nice acidity. Long finish.

NV Jose Dhondt Champagne Rosé de Saignée Brut 85 Points

Not sure what was up with this bottle, but it came across very sweet and candied - mostly strawberry flavors. Little acidity and a sweet finish.

NV Montaudon Champagne Grande Rosé Brut 87 Points
France, Champagne
There was a funky aspect to the nose, which was otherwise toasted brioche and strawberry. Much better on the palate, which was herbal along with strawberry, cherry, and citrus. Couldn't get over those funky aromas, though. There are much better sparkling rosés out there.

2006 Schramsberg Vineyards Brut Rosé 91 Points
USA, California, North Coast
Toasty and nutty with bright strawberry, pear, and citrus. Nicely balanced. The Pinot Noir component really comes through on this. On the short list of the best domestic sparkling rosés.

Lemon yogurt and white toast. Creamy, yet refreshingly bright on the palate with nice, tiny bubbles.

Nice flavors of citrus and toast. Really well balanced. The one thing keeping this away from a higher score is a lack of intensity of flavor.

NV Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée 92 Points

First time to experience the legend that is Krug - albeit this was a just a small taste. Toasted hazelnuts and lemon zest. Creamy, with fine bubbles. Great finish. Look forward to having more of this in the future.
