Hosted by Calvert Woodley, this was my first look at 2009 Burgundy. We also had the opportunity to taste more incredible Cru Beaujolais from Henry Fessy. My overall impressions were that the reds are really impressive as a whole and will be beautiful pinots. Chardonnay was harder for me to judge. Many were unbalanced with the oak - so while my initial reaction wasn't overly positive I am interested to see how the oak integrates within the wines over the upcoming years.
I didn't post notes on a couple wines here - these are the ones that stuck out to me.
A new producer to me. Was really excited about their Saint-Bris and Les Clos. Both are worthy wines that should be considered for purchase.
Another impressive flight of 2009 Beaujolais. Beautifully delicate and complex wines.
Both Bob and I were really impressed by Latour's pinot. Mssr. Latour compared 2009 to 2005, but both Bob and I agreed that at the same point in their evolution the 2009 are far more open for business. Each wine I had was beautiful and I'd be happy to own any of them.
A great first look at 2009 Burgundy.
2009 Louis Latour Puligny-Montrachet 77 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
Thought the oak just blew this wine away. No balance, clunky on the palate. Not my style.

2009 Louis Latour Meursault 87 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Enjoyed this very much. Drinking well right now with good minerals, sea salt, and lemons. Not as good as the Chassagne, but far better than the Puligny.

Enjoyed this wine. Nose was fresh and perfumed with white flowers, some honey and stonefruit. Really enjoyed it.

2009 Louis Latour Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets 88 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tropical fruits on the nose with honeyed pears, and spicy minerals. Such a young wine, so the oak and alcohol were a bit volatile in my opinion, but the flavors were pure so I'm thinking time will be necessary for this wine to come together.

2009 Louis Latour Bâtard-Montrachet 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Powerful nose already of almonds, minerals, honeysuckle, marshmellows and white flowers. Didn't think this showed too well tonight with the oak really running the show. Underneath some of the makeup, there's serious depth and structure to this wine, but it's really hidden beneath some of these tertiary flavors. Definitely a wine to hold onto for a while.

2009 Louis Latour Corton-Charlemagne 91 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Powerful nose of marshmellows, oak, lemon oil, almond paste and minerals. Much like the Batard, this has a lot of potential but is backwards right now. Hold, hold, hold.
