Introduction

With 2009 Bordeaux hype in full swing we tried among us and friends to source as many wines from 1909 to 2009 from every 9 decade
We started with 1909 Lanessan purchased from the chateau and ended with the new 2009 Lanessan

Flight 1 (11 Notes)

  • 1909 Château Lanessan

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc

Not sure how you are supposed to rate such a wine. Always a joy when you realise that its still drinking well after all these years. Bought from the chateau and kept still for 9 months, shoulder level.
Brick red colour showing all its age, a ton of ultafine sediment (becarefull when u decant and dont use a filter). More on the nose than the palate surprisingly with lots of fine notes. Light but present body. All in all a great experience and a great start to our wine event.

This wine is a conversation in its own, given the history and all.
Double decanted for like 1 hour and served chlled. Lots and lots of fine silt like sediment. Feels much younger and is very "fresh" for a 39. Very enjoyable desert wine. Lots of fruit on the palate. desnse and golden in colour (not so pink...). A bit dissapointing on the nose and complexity compared to lets say a 39 sauternes lets say.

[Recioto like super deep red colour and the longest finish ever. Good body great nose raisins and liquorice]

Low shoulder bottle but still drinking ok. well aged and verging to old now. Colour is showing its age and nose is mild yet surprisinggly there! Very nice on the palate though and a very nice surprise given 79 was a badish vintage..

    The Papies 2009 WE - 1909 > 2009 Tribute to the 100 years leading to 2009 Vintage
Tough one to rate. Still feels young and closed but shows lots of potential. Maybe it needed more than 1hr of decanting.. Still an enjoyable bottle dont get us wrong but we cannot shake that what if/what could this be feeling. Nice long finish at least

Second to the Lynch 89 on the day. Decanted for 2 hours. Wine feels young and has lots more to give over the next few years. Dark deep red on the colour. Fine elegant very pinot nose. Nice and complex.
See you in a few years my friend.

Opened by accident but we would welcome these accidents any day. Didnt know what to expect from this but it made the whole table smile. Colour is still dark, yet nose and palate feel well aged and mature. Lots of dark fruits all over. Lots of earthy tones too. Nice long long finish. a great accident :)!
