Spice, rhubarb, spicy cranberry. Good mid palate. Rich, fruit driven. Solid body. Agree that it fell apart after a few. Touch of heat. Looking for nicer acid and finesse.
Lovely stinky nose. Leather, rustic fruit. Dirt covered meaty deli spice. Acidic and good grip. The nose is beautiful and the palate is solid but didn't support the aromatics.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Outstanding. Such a unique nose. The pros around the table commented there was some pre-oxidation occurring - it didn't put me off one bit. Color was a vibrant star bright, but medium deep gold. Aromas were spilling from the glass. Tropical fruit - mango, pineapple, kiwi, creamy coconut. Fresh linen - cotton - laced with strong minerality. Some deep rich gray stone, slate, white and orange flowers - fresh and just blossomed. Really expansive palate. Creamy and lush but still showing nice focus and laser like precision on the mid palate. Great mouth feel. The finish goes on for a minute. Coats the mouth but retains such great tart acidity you pucker longing for another sip. Awesome!
Super ripe. Heady, meaty. Soupy. Lots of really brooding but delicious reductive qualities. Great structure. Waxy crayon play on the palate. Great weight. Beautiful layered finish. A stunning wine. I like this style of aged Bordeaux - not TOO dirty - still bushels of great fruit.
I really liked this big fleshy full bodied Cali Cab. Not bashful at all with the tannin and backbone involved. Waxy, creamy creme de cassis. Crayons, tobacco, black tea and olive. Plush super ripe palate with boysenberries and blackberries. Great finish. Super firm. Still needs another decade to soften up. Great promise though. Really loved this though Phil thought the tannins were overpowering.
Really surprised with this one when the wine was revealed. This was super culty. Beautiful floral with savory aromatics. Stewed strawberries and cream. Funky and unique. Stunning nose. Has everything going on. Truffle, chocolate, oak, vanilla, purple flowers. Complete and rich. Just pure delicious.
Still some life showing on the palate in this oldie. Murky, cloudy tawny color. Reductive leather, soy and black tea notes on the nose. This was showing lots of age, but I agree that you wouldn't think it was from '49. Rustic raspberries, unique and a little cheesy on the back end of the nose and palate. Caramel. A nice opportunity to sample this nicely aged Bordeaux.
Earth, pungent funk, spice and some creamy winter green on the nose. Some light sulfuric action as well with some fig. Palate shows massive grip. A touch austere. Nice depth. Drinking well now.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Anise, meaty, light smoke. Touches of fresh mint. Pure and clean. Great well accented palate. Shows more of the nose faithfully. Nice wine. Still really young.
