Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2004 Château d'Armajan des Ormes 86 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

WSET I L7: clear, intensen golden. Medium nose of pineapple, stonefruits, oak. On the palate sweet, with medium acidity at best, full bodied, even a but heavy. Sweet spices, toast, apricot. Good length. Ok wine, lack of acidity makes it slightly off balance.
Value/money = 9 (this is one of the cheapest Sauternes I ever came across and despite it flaws the wine experience is 100% Sauternes). Great if you want to tip your toe in Sauternes without losing your shirt.

  • NV Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut 87 Points

    France, Champagne

WSET I L7: clear, lemon, fine mousse straight up. On the nose good brioche, bread, lemon and some toast. Lees left their mark. Dry, very high acidity, citrus fruits, granny smith, and mousse creates pleasant mouthfeel. Effervescence is so much better than in the Moet Brut Imperial I had later the same night.
Value/money = 8. Delivers consistently and therefore fails to really impress.
