Quite ripe on the Nose -- I thought it was a ripe St. Emilion. Palate was round, with decent acid and tannin; a bit chocolately; O.K..

Spicy and very ripe on the Nose. Seemingly tons of residual sugar on the palate; tannic; raisiny; heat in belly. Rather port-like. Not really my style, but others in attendance liked it quite a lot.

A bit stinky on the Nose. Palate is juicy, with nice acidity and a leather flavor. Was very surprised to find this was the '08 Copain Pinot Noir, as I was expecting a much lighter more Pinot-y wine than this. I have to believe there was either something wrong with this bottle or that this wine sufferred from smoke taint.

Black tea and raspberries on the Nose. Palate is round with flavors of raisin and garrigue. Decent wine. Was a bit surprised by the reveal, as this performed better than I expected it would.

Very ripe purple fruits and a bit of tanned leather on the Nose. As soon as I tasted this, I knew it was the Rachero Cellars Carignane: it had a distinct earth/leather note on the palate, with ripe purple berry fruits surrounding. Has smoothed a bit over the past 8 months, and I believe it will continue to improve over the short to mid-term.

Nice aged purple fruit aromas on the Nose. Fruit is on its way out on the palate. Drink now.

Nose smelled like an aged CA Cab. or CA Bdx blend; strong menthol/eucalyptus note on the Nose. A bit flat on the palate. 14.4% alc.; Looked, smelled, and tasted significantly older than it is. I have to believe this was an off bottle (heat damage suspected).

NOSE: spicy; grenachy; little bit of funk.
TASTE: round; good finish; I like this a lot. This was my favorite wine of the day, and, like many others in the blind tasting, I was way off-base in guessing the wine: blind, I though this was a CdP with some age on it - from '98 perhaps --- woops! Way off-base. Overall, this was an awesome wine, and it has plenty of life left in it.

Very perfumed and floral Nose. Smooth with good acidity on the palate; purple fruit with moderate oak in the background. I thought this was quite good, and was surprised to find out it was already 9 years old -- it tasted younger. This wine has plenty of life left in it, and I bet it still has some room for improvement.

Smoked meats (salami and sausage) on the Nose; dark purple color; cool climate type of Syrah; this is excellent, and at a stupid-low price point, ta boot.

Spaghetti sauce and red fruits on the Nose. Palate is soft, and a bit more red-fruited than many Napa Cabs. There is a lot of wine for your money here. Excellent.

-- 80% Mourvedre, 15% Syrah, 5% Grenache --
Spicy Nose: cigar; Hungarian oak. Medium bodied on the palate, showing surprising freshness of fruit and a very nice earthiness that I want out of a Mourvedre. Very nice; has plenty of life left.

Light cherry Nose. Medium-light bodied on the palate. Somewhat thin and green with a background hint of minerality. I thought this was decent, but I wouldn't seek it out.

Expressive Nose is showing some good complexity. Palate was somewhat closed and/or simple. Still needs time.

2009 Denner Viognier

-- tasted non-blind over 15 minutes --

Light Nose shows some powdery florals and light stone fruits. Medium bodied on the palate with light nectarine and mineral flavors. Quite nice. A good vintage for Denner's Viognier.

2005 McPrice Myers Viognier Larner Vineyard

Expressive and spicy Nose; smells sweet and a bit nutty; Nice medium-full bodied mouthfeel; quite rich; alcohol comes through a bit on the finish; I guessed Gewurz and then Marsanne before giving-up. Was extremely surprised to find this is a Viognier. Seems mature. Drink now.

Golden yellow color. First whiff on the Nose screamed Burgundy to me. Typical chard. aromas with a wash of toasted popcorn kernels at the forefront. Still lots of fruit hanging-on to the Palate, with ample minerals on the long finish. I liked this quite a lot.

2006 Marcassin Chardonnay Three Sisters Vineyard
USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
-- tasted blind over 10 minutes --
-- this was white wine # 11 --
NOSE: oaky; vanilla; light; not rich
TASTE: kinda flat; very minerally; austere; a bit of heat. Once revealed, I was quite surprised, as I would have expected a much better performance from this producer. At best, this was consumed way too young; at worst, this is a boring CA Chardonnay.

2003 Cottonwood Canyon Chardonnay Estate
USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley
-- tasted non-blind over 10 minutes --
-- this was white wine # brown paper bag --
NOSE: tropical; petrol; spicy (reminded me a bit of botrytis)
TASTE: minerally; oaky; a bit lactic; tropical; hint of heat in the belly; medium-long finish of medium-strong intensity. Very good, but showing quite differently than the last bottle I had.

2005 Arcadian Chardonnay Sleepy Hollow Vineyard
USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
-- tasted blind over 10 minutes --
-- this was white wine # 27 --
Upon smelling, I immediately knew this was an Arcadian Chardonnay, and its performance was quite typical of Joe's SH Chard.. For those of you unfamiliar with the wine: it walks a fine line between a rich full-bodied typical CA Chard and a leaner more mineral-driven White Burg.. A very fine wine.
