Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2009 Domaine du Haut Bourg Muscadet-Côtes de Grandlieu 87 Points

France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet-Côtes de Grandlieu

A light straw colored wine with a nose of green apple, lime and chalk. Tastes of mineral, granny smith apple in the mouth lead to a medium finish of green apple.

  • 2006 Hahn Chardonnay SLH Estate Vineyard 89 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands

The Hahn SLH Chardonnay is a medium bodied, light golden wine. The nose exhibits heavy oak, pepper, a buttery tone with a slight butyric acid edge of spoiled butter initially. In the mouth, this wine explodes with tastes of golden delicious, apricot and cantaloupe. The texture is decadently creamy, really soft and round in the mouth. The medium length finish has butter, toasted oak and cantaloupe. Lots of oak in this wine, but very nice.

  • 2008 Weingut R & A Pfaffl Zweigelt Austrian Cherry 90 Points

    Austria, Niederösterreich, Weinviertel

The Austrian Cherry is a garnet wine with a medium body. The nose has earth, cherries and oak. This elegant style features rich, ripe cherry with good depth. The medium length finish has an abundance of cherry with smoke and oak. This wine has really good balance and is just a pleasure to drink. Not one to keep though, as it started to fade around 90 minutes.

  • 2008 Boekenhoutskloof The Wolftrap 90 Points

    South Africa, Western Cape

Boekenhoutskloof is a mouthful and so is the wine. Garnet in appearance and medium bodied, it has a nose of game, smoke and bacon, befitting the Wolftrap name. In the mouth, it is smooth, with soft and round tastes of blackberry and plum. The medium finish has a peppery edge with sweet blackberry. There's enough complexity in this wine to keep one's interest, especially given the excellent QPR.

  • 2007 Michael-David Vineyards Zinfandel 7 Deadly Zins 88 Points

    USA, California, Central Valley, Lodi

7 Deadly Zins is a deep ruby wine with a medium body. The nose has leather, earth, oak and a hint of vanilla. In the mouth, this is a fruit bomb, with tastes of plum, blackberry pie, a hint of licorice and a peppery spiciness. The texture is typical of many Lodi zinfandels, smooth and soft. The finish is short to medium with blackberry, pepper and oak. Really nice rich fruit from the 80 year old vines.
