Flight 1 - 2009 from barrel (13 Notes)

  • 2009 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Bourgogne

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

Barrel tasting at Domaine. Pretty fruit, lots of ripe red cherry. Very impressive concentration and density for its level.

  • 2009 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Chambolle-Musigny

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

Barrel tasting at Domaine. Lacy, delicate with very good texture and density. great example of a wine showing lots of different aspects of Chambolle from the 18 distinct parcels from which this wine is composed. Very impressive for its level.

  • 2009 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Vosne-Romanée

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Barrel tasting at Domaine. More structure than the Chambolle, fruit doesn't come across quite as elegant today. Some moderate spice comes out in middle and finish.

  • 2009 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Nuits St. Georges Les Bas de Combes

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges

Barrel tasting at Domaine. Red cherry and dark cherry, seeming slightly less concentration and density than the Vosne and Chambolle Villages wines. Good texture on finish.

  • 2009 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Barrel tasting at Domaine. Bright red fruit on nose with good spice, then same fruit comes through on palate. Cherry and ripe raspberry seem somewhat delicate to start, then pick up intensity towards middle and end. 50% new oak comes through but will integrate quickly. Impressive Charmes 1er.

  • 2009 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Vougeot 1er Cru Les Petits Vougeots

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vougeot 1er Cru

Barrel tasting at Domaine. Black cherry on nose. Big fruit but probably less ripe than most of the 2009 lineup. Middle and end dominated by lots of tannins and acid today, with big minerality. This will need some time to integrate and soften.

  • 2009 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

Barrel tasting at Domaine. Lots of ripe red fruit on nose with good spice. Same fruit on palate, with big tannins and acidity coming through from middle to finish. Lot finish, already balanced nicely for a NSG 1er. Will age nicely and gracefully. I will look for this wine.

  • 2009 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

Barrel tasting at Domaine. Ripe fruit on nose, good combination of red and black, with really good floral notes. Spice and herbs more prominent on palate, adding great nuance and character. Intense, alluring finish. My favorite of the 2009 Hudelot-Noellat 1er lineup, excluding Malconsorts.

  • 2009 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaumonts

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

Barrel tasting at Domaine. Leaner fruit than the Suchots, also slightly less spice. Seems more mineral driven today with lots of precision, which was quite nice, but not at the level of Suchots today.

  • 2009 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Clos Vougeot

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

Barrel tasting at Domaine. Very aromatic, showing ripe fruit and spice on nose. Same red cherry flavor on palate, slightly sweet, but well balanced and supported by good tannin, acidity and minerality. Picks up steam near finish. Slightly exotic styled Clos Vougeot, I'm intrigued and look forward to trying this again after bottling.

  • 2009 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Romanée St. Vivant

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru

Barrel tasting at Domaine. Big red cherry and wild strawberry on nose with great spice. Intense red fruit on palate, clearly ripe but everything is well supported and balanced. Explosive fruit and spice on finish. Not quite as fat and floral as the Richebourg today.

  • 2009 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Richebourg

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru

Barrel tasting at Domaine. Great strawberry and cherry on nose, perfectly complemented by great florals and spice. Ripe but balanced palate, showing combination of red and black fruit. Big flavors of Provencal herbs along with the fruit, incredible texture and power on finish. For me, one small step up from the RSV today, particularly showing more lush fruit and greater spice.

  • 2009 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

Barrel tasting at Domaine. Interestingly, this was poured after the Romanee St.-Vivant and Richebourg in the 2009 lineup, which made sense in that it was the most dense and powerful wine in the Hudelot-Noellat 2009 lineup. Mostly black fruit with lots of spice, lots of energy. Less nuance and finesse than the two prior wines, but lots of structure and concentration. Long finish, I will be very interested in trying this again in ten years. Big upside potential.

Flight 2 - 2008 from bottle (3 Notes)

  • 2008 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Chambolle-Musigny

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

Tasting at Domaine. Classic lacy Chambolle-Musigny in every way with charming red fruit, great spice and texture. Not powerful but interesting and energetic. This might be the rare Villages level 2008 as good as its 2009 counterpart (vs. Grand Cru, where I've found many 2008s to be as good or better than 2009s).

  • 2008 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Clos Vougeot

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

Tasting at Domaine.Dense fruit, more black than red with lots of power and structure. Not showing much finesse, this wine has lots of concentration so will hold up well in the cellar, I'm just not sure if we're talking 10 or 20 years for it to reach maturity. A very masculine Clos Vougeot.
