Great event and all the wines showed well tonight. Groups wine of the night was the Kay Brothers (14 points), second Arcadian (11 points), 04 Biale (8 points) and DeLille (4 points), Massena (2 points), Red Nectar (1 point), 2001 Biale (1 point).
My favorite wine was the Arcandian and a top ten of the year for sure followed by the Red Nectar Wines Shiraz. This was one of my favorite events of the year.
2001 Robert Biale Petite Sirah Thomann Station 90 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley
Still drinking well with nice dark color. Earth, spice, licorice and berries. The palate is showing nice earth components and the tannins are soft overall. Medium finish and drink now.

Really nice wine and finished in third place tonight. Blueberries, spice, blackberries, coffee and earth. The palate shows concentration and the tannins have mellowed out. Medium finish and a really balanced wine. Well done!

2003 Arcadian Syrah Hommage à Max 95 Points
USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley
Roasted nuts, white pepper, stones, spice and red fruits. This has an amazing nose and required about an hour in the decanter and a Vinturi to really show its stuff. There is a great scorched earth element to the wine and has long finish. Very Northern Rhone like and one of the best Syrah's of the year. This might be the first time I have ever agreed with the Rhone Report on a score. A top ten wine for sure in 2011.

2004 DeLille Cellars Syrah Doyenne 91 Points
USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Yakima Valley
Nice overall and needs a few more years in the cellar. Blueberries, black raspberries, pepper and spice. A little heat on the nose but blew off over time. Good finish but the wine lacks a bit compared to some of the other wines tonight. 90-92.

2004 Tensley Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard 91 Points
USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County
Nice overall but a little closed down on the nose. Decanted one hour and put through the Vinturi prior to serving. Dark purple. Nose is dominated by black olives and pepper. On the palate shows some sweetness along with raspberries, spice and black pepper. Good acidity and should improve with 3 more years in the cellar.

2002 Massena Shiraz The Eleventh Hour 93 Points

Black licorice, spice, dark fruits and smoke on the nose. This is a a full bodied wine and picks up a nice floral note. Medium finish and plenty going on here. Drink for five plus more years. Decanted for one hour and two times through Mr. Vinturi.

2001 Kay Brothers Shiraz Block 6 Amery Vineyards 93 Points
Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
Another good showing with subtle Eucalyptus, oak, blueberries, chocolate and picks up a buttery note on the finish. Balanced wine overall and should drink well for 5 more years. Since it is drinking so well now I would not push your luck on aging this over five years. Group's wine of the night.

2003 Red Nectar Wines Shiraz Stonewell 94 Points

My second favorite wine of the night. White pepper, raspberries, blueberries and spice come together on this super balanced and complex wine. No sign of heat or Eucalyptus. Medium finish and great acidity. My second favorite wine of the night.
