Introduction

Finally uploading my notes for this amazing annual event, organized by Justin Bonner. It is a remarkable showcase of SQN, but more importantly, the generosity of Justin in sharing his cellar, Manfred & Elaine in their contributions to make the event special, and all of the attendees who raid their cellars and support "the kids".

Flight 1 - Friday Night Free For All (52 Notes)

This list of wines shows the generosity of the attendees -- this was the "BYO" portion of the event. Some amazing wines here, and notes are hit or miss. I missed some other amazing wines, but it would have been impossible to hit everything!

Flight 2 - SQN Roses - walk around (4 Notes)

These continue to be OK, but suffer from too much heat. I appreciated them more than in past years, but they are an awful value.

Flight 3 - SQN Pinots - walk around (2 Notes)

Flight 4 - Dinner Flight 1 : SQN Whites (3 Notes)

    USA, California, Central Coast

    (6/18/2011)

developed, with notes of olive, blood, and still some red currant. palate is restrained and shows a surprising amount of red fruit. spice note builds on a lovely finish. in a great spot right now, but not showing signs of going downhill.

  • 2001 Sine Qua Non Syrah On Your Toes 94 Points

    USA, California

    (6/18/2011)

in the initial taste, this had a hard time holding up against the heart chorea and e-raised. when i went back to it, some lovely cedar notes had become more prominent, on top of a nice red fruit profile. surprisingly youthful. nice finish.

  • 2005 Alban Vineyards Syrah Lorraine 96 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Edna Valley

    (6/18/2011)

The PA table stepped up and added this bottle to our table during the auction. This was a little bit slutty, with a rich fruit profile of plum and raspberry. dark chocolate shows up in a medium intensity dusty tannins -- hersheys powder. a tiny bit of heat shows up on a long, long finish.

From magnum -- 1 of the 99... smoky black pepper. black fruit. very nice. med(+) finish doesn't have the same depth as the SQN. Still an awesome treat and a wine I am glad to have in the cellar.
