Last night, my friend and Bber Dick L. hosted a tasting from his cellar of Chateau Lanessan. Back in the day, the 1955 was his epiphany wine. This is a relatively inexpensive haut medoc wine that really needs some time to strut its stuff. I thought Dick did a great job in prepping the wines (decanting them all except slowox for the 55). (Plus it kept the riff-raff, those who hate decanting ;-), away from the tasting). All the wines showed well. This is an estate that provides great QPR in a place, Bordeaux, that many say is way over priced.
The wines were enjoyed over 3 hours. Breads and cheeses were served.
A couple of blind Rieslings to start the evening.
Chateau Lanessan:
And some Port to conclude:
Thanks for inviting me Dick!
2001 Weingut Max Ferd. Richter Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Spätlese 90 Points
Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Golden in color. The nose has some pineapple and some wet stones. On the palate, this is till youthful. Very tasty and not that sweet. Very smooth and easy to drink.

2001 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese 93 Points

Slightly deeper golden in color. The nose is gorgeous with sweet pineapple and some crushed rocks. On the palate, this is complex and still youthful. Much sweeter than the Richter. Honey, pineapple and minerals. Long finish. Just a delicious wine that continued to evolve all evening.
