Deeply golden color. Oxidized, reminiscent of mature champagne aromas, caramel fudge, mushroom. On the palate it surprises by not being so far gone as the nose would suggest. Full bodied, very good acidity and still fresh fruit. My favorite of the whites this evening.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Golden color. Spicy oak aromas on the nose and on the palate. Good weight and acidity. However, the oak needs a further 3 years to integrate and let the fruit show.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Lightly yellow color. An immediate attack of heavy minerals (to my liking) mixed with an oakiness that reminds me of another continent. Heavier on the palate than expected. It evolved well during the evening. To sum up, excellent minerals and pedigree but poor handling of the oak for my taste. Leave it another 3-5 years and it ought to pick up another 2-3 points.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru
Dark red color with brick edges. Nose suggests some faults. Something has gone very wrong with the wine/vinification. Extremely high acidity, totally off balance and undrinkable.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Medium/light red. Very aromatic PN rosy scents with concentration and healthy acidity and round fruit. Actually approachable at this stage but with a good acidity that will easily take it another 5 years. Should be easy to match with good food.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Deeply concentrated color with brick edges. A bit shy initially with a milky scent. On the palate, very dark fruit, still very elegant with a good balance acidity/fruit right now. Very good.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Concentrated color with brick edges. Nose dominated by lovely sweet fruit. Heavy fruit with typical rose scent. Good, high acidity. Give it another 2-3 years.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Very complex flavors. Chocolate and nice maturity aromas, slightly reminiscent of truly great Riojas. Perfectly balanced which renders it ready to drink, although I would expect it to improve another 5-8 years.
