This was my first time at one of these UGC tastings, and I was amazed at how open and ready to drink many of the wines seemed. I think the wines showed great, but could see some folks not liking them if they prefer a more restrained style.
2009 Château Carbonnieux Blanc 93 Points

2009 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc 92 Points
France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Coats the tongue moreso than the other white 2009 Bordeaux tried at this event. Citrus and honey, with honey being more prominent.

2009 Domaine de Chevalier 94 Points

Very rich and smooth aroma here. Taste has a lot of dark fruit without much tannin at all. A hint of tobacco. Drinking great now.

2009 Château Haut-Bailly 93 Points
France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
A bit of a barnyard funk on the nose that was slightly worrisome, but the taste was great. Very solid balance of dark fruits and oak.

2009 Château Pape Clément Blanc 88 Points
France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Honey and white peach flavors here. Didn't have the smoothness that couple of the other whites had.

2009 Château Pape Clément 94 Points
France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Great dark berry nose. Taste has dark fruits and tobacco. Re-tasted later in the event, with consistent notes. Some heavier tannins were noticed the second time around. Made me think of a CA wine.

2009 Château Smith Haut Lafitte 93 Points
France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Very nice nose of dark fruit. The taste is terrific with a good blend of coffee and dark fruits, although it did make me wonder how long this will last as compared to some of the other big reds at this event. Finish had some tannins, but not heavy.

2009 Château Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc 92 Points
France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Quite a citrus/lemon aroma. Taste is very nice, but the acidity is a bit too much to get a higher score.

2009 Château Figeac 93 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
A whiff of this makes you see how deep, dark & brooding it is, with quite a bit of oak there. The dark fruit is there in the taste, but there is a bit of a menthol in the taste as well that was a bit strong. The finish seemed a bit short.

2009 Château Pavie Macquin 92 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

2009 Clos Fourtet 92 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
A bit lighter nose than some of the other reds tonight, and not as overpowering. Dark fruit is still there, but some hints of lighter red fruit as well. Heavier tobacco & oak on the palate.

Rather unimpressionable, without either fruit or oak standing out much

2009 Château Clinet 91 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Seems more restrained than some other 2009 Bordeaux, and not so over the top. Tannin and oak come through on the aroma. Less fruit coming out here. Taste has dark fruit, but still dominated by oak. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

2009 Château La Conseillante 95 Points

Heavy on the dark fruit upfront in the aroma. Nose is beautiful. Great balance of spice, dark fruit and oak. The taste follows up the aroma by being wonderful. Best wine of the night.

Nice nose, with the typical dark fruit and some mint and spice. Good taste with some tannins, dark fruit and tobacco. Seems like this could have a long life.

2009 Château Labégorce 91 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Lighter fruit taste, as opposed to much of the heavy dark fruits in the other wines tonight. Rather oaky and tannic, I think this needs some time before showing more of its stuff.

2009 Château Gruaud Larose 88 Points

Taste a bit of menthol in this. Aroma is pretty heavy on the oak as well. Those two items both didn't allow the dark fruits to show well.

Nice nose here - it gives dark fruit aroma and you can sense the oak & tannins. Very nice taste with great dark fruit flavors, and although it may seems a bit simple, it is still great.

Dark fruit and spice & black pepper on the nose. Taste is very smooth with a very nice mix of dark fruit, tobacco and oak. Moderate tannins, so the fruit still gets to shine. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

A bit ligher fruit with heavier tannins. I wonder about how the tannins vs. fruit will last over the years.
