Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • NV Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut 88 Points

    France, Champagne

Always a little middling, but at least this bottle had some age one it, which helped to round it off somewhat and add a bit of complexity, so it was actually quite drinkable. It had a little nutty accent to both its nose and palate to go along with white fruit flesh and a lemony notes that ran into a high-toned finish. One of the more decent bottles.

  • 2009 Nepenthe Pinot Noir The Good Doctor 90 Points

Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills

I actually thought this was very yummy. A great example of a well-made new world Pinot. It had a nice nose, with pretty aromas of dark cherries and dark flowers seasoned by a bit of earth and spice. The palate was nicely balanced too. Very fresh, with lots of lively acidity, its flavours of dark cherries patted down with a nice bit of earth and a bit of spice echoed the scents on the nose very nicely. Not entirely complex given its youth, but it was very nicely put together. A hit around the table.
