Introduction

Two visits scheduled for May 10, starting in Savigny-lès-Beaune with Claude de Nicolay, and then Beaune with Pierrick Prevost (Maison Jadot rep).

Flight 1 - Domaine Chandon de Briailles (10 Notes)

After stopping at Chandon de Briailles to taste on Sunday during the Bienvenue à Savigny event, Claude de Nicolay invited us to return for a private tasting. We very gladly accepted, and made an appointment for Thursday morning. I have to say that this was one of the revelations for me on this trip, never having had Chandon de Briailles. Claude is clearly passionate about her wines (she runs the estate with her brother). The wines are pure, fresh and reflect their place. The domaine is committed to biodynamics (full certification starting, I believe, with the 2011 vintage) and minimal intervention. There are no pesticides, herbicides or insecticides. I will be a buyer. The reds were tasted before the whites. I should note that these wines displayed an energy that seems to run through the 2010s in general.

Flight 2 - Maison Jadot (8 Notes)

I was met at Maison Jadot by Pierrick Prevost, who guided me through a fairly standard tasting of eight wines. After we had chatted and tasted a bit he apparently realized that I actually know something about wine and am a collector, and he apologized for not having brought out some "other" wines. No worries, Pierrick was very hospitable, and was a pleasure to spend some time with.
